discharger
im in need of a discharger or equalizer so i can charge in series i was looking at the novak smart tray but was wondering if thier are any better ones
|
charge what kind of batteries? ni-mh, lipo, m1, emoli? all chargers will charge in series - it's just a matter of how many cells at a time. and your truck is the best discharger. :027:
some chargers have discharge capabilities. i have 2 duratrax Ice chargers, and they can discharge up to 10 amps. but it's not a balanced discharge, unless they're discharged at a very low rate. |
Have you seen the new trinity discharger? It's really nice!
|
it does look nice. it'll only do 4-6 cells in a side x side configuration though. it's no good to those of us with 7 cell packs, unfortunately. it does have the external wires to connect to a pack, but then it works just like my Ice: it discharges the entire pack to a pre-determined pack cutoff.
|
Have you ever seen a "generally available" discharger that discharges/equalizes packs for more than 6 cell packs? I can't think of one.
|
no, and that was kind of my point. there really isn't a good discharger with equalizing capabilities for our use...with 7 cell packs or more. with my Ice, each time i'm done running my matched 7 cell ni-mh packs, i'll discharge down to 1.1v per cell at 10 amps. then, i'll further discharge at a 2 amp rate down to .9v/cell. i then charge the pack at 1C.
the slow discharge from 1.1 to .9v has an 'equalizing effect', and does help keep the cells in relative balance, but the more the packs are cycled, the more out of balance they get as it's not a precise equalizing process. it really only makes sense for matched packs, too. |
All the more reason to go lipo I suppose.

i run 2 six cell 4200s and i like the trinity one but $154 is to high of a price i am looking at around 70 dollars also i want it to be ajustable cut off
