need help with getting a dependable setup
Here is my problem, I run my e-maxx on the sand, and if I try to gear it for speed, it thermal's like crazy. My goal, is to get 40+ mph on the sand with no thermal.
Here is my setup: 9920 warrior esc / with BEC 9xl motor pro-line arm, 3.3 carriers, towers, and shocks 2 speed tranny rrr spur 70/22 5S Lipo 12 lb truck, with lipos in When I run in 2nd, it thernals, 1st is fine. I also want to go with the strobe, since I have heard it is a better clutch. When I run it on the sand, with the resistance, 2nd is no good with these gears, and I have plenty of torque, too much to be honest. The motor was find, it was the ESC that was too hot. Can I just get a better ESC to handle this, so that I can keep this gearing (and handle the 51 spur when I get the strobe)? Would the Monster Pro quark-125b handle it better? Or, what esc can handle this, the motor seems to be fine. Again, I do want to go 40+, on the sand, high resistance. Also, I want to get the single speed tranny, but can't if I can't even run it in 2nd now. If I can get it running how I like, then I will get the single tranny. |
You are asking a lot....
Only thing you can do is try a better speedo and see if it can handle it. I would recomend the MambaMax with a good fan and a UBEC of course. |

I suggest the use of a fan on your controller, it should be ready to rumble, without thermal problems..

These are sold out, but they have got more. Perhaps Mike has got a few 40x40 fans. (i used 1 on my 9920) |
I don't think that a fan is going to cure all of your woes. 40 mph on the sand is a very tall order.
If you got rid of the two speed and geared for about 30, I think that would be a more reasonable demand of the system. Even 1/1 scale monster truck tires have something like "do not exceed 35 mph" stamped on them. The ones I've seen did, anyway. |
Aangel, he is looking for a dependable setup, this is not really your specialism..
True though; gearing it for a lower end speed in 2nd helps you too. Sand and long grass are a pita. |
use a strobe that will give you way faster speeds and you can gear the motor low and put a fan on the esc and that would be your best bet.

Serum, I am trying really hard.
If running through sand and stuff that offers a lot of resistance, I'd go with a 10XL and a MM (to keep costs down). With all of the problems that I've had lately with my Quark, Compro, and Neu motor, I do have to say that my Feigao/MM setups have been bullet proof. If it wasn't for the heat issues with the Feigaos, I wouldn't be looking for anything else. I just need to be able to get through a 30 minute main. Considering that the motor isn't getting hot on you, but the esc is, add the fan and gear a bit smaller and see what the results are. I've been running a 12v fan that I got on ebay from a place called robobugs and have been running that fan on 4S lipo without a 12v regulator for a couple of months now and haven't had any troubles. The fan is 1"X1" and is a perfect fit for the MM. Just use 3mm self threading screws and drive them right in between the fins of the MM. |
