schulze 18.97kwf, 5s lipo, what motor

I bought the schulze 18.97kwf about a year ago when everybody thought it was the king, now, a year later its just so-so but I own it so i'm gonna run it. I'll be running 5s lipos in a fairly heavy e-maxx(lots of aluminum) I'm more interested in run time and explosive power than top speed. I was thinking a feigao 7 or 8xl??? Anyone in minnesota have any brushless knowledge, the local hobby shop has more questions than answers when I roll in. Thanks guys!

I believe that esc was deisgned to be a perfect match for the Plettenberg Bigmaxximum, so a motor of similar specs would be ideal.

no sir

i've read lots of threads(thanks guys) about the big maxximum and serum himself states equal performance from a 7xl at 1/4 of the cost, so you indirectly answered my question, i'm going with a 7xl from fine design cause blue matches my trucks color scheme, can't wait to show you guys, an r/c solutions extended cybermaxx t-maxx chassis w/ cage and a schulze 18.97 kwf with I guess a 7xl on 5s lipo! I wanna run a slipperential what's taking so long??? is anybody reading this????? I need brushless help in minnesota!!!!!!!!!!!

suicideneil 06.22.2007 05:51 PM

At the moment Mike is snowed under with BL conversions, so the Slipperential is having to wait a little while until final testing/production can begin; but he's getting there. The finedesign motors are just like the Feigaos, only blue, so they do look nicer I must admit. You will want the Rc-monster motor clamp/heatsink too to prevent the ends of the motor popping off- or it is possible to screw them on like MM motors with tiny screws.

BTW, that is what I ment by 'a motor of similar specs', as in a similar KV rating / can size etc. The price of the BigMaxximum is just silly for a motor, but it does look nice with those twirly cooling fins...

Wait a second... 7xl on 5s? I thought you didn't want speed?!

_paralyzed_ 06.22.2007 10:46 PM

nice rusty!

I don't want speed would a 8 or 9 xl give me more torque and runtime?? that's what i want to know, btw, that rustler is sick man is that a custom chassis? love the mid mount motor!!!!!!!!!

crazyjr 06.22.2007 11:02 PM

I run a 7xl on 5s, it was insane but run hot all the time. 9XL will run better of your chosen options, but its still really fast with the right gearing. I think a 10XL or 12XL might be better, it will be tamer and run much cooler

luvsrc 06.22.2007 11:24 PM

9XL on 5s lipo is a good combo especially on speed because of greater torque than 8 or 7XL ,the 9XL will run cooler also

thanx

thats what i wanted to know, anyone want to place bets on how long the schulze controller will last?? Anything i can do to help it??

crazyjr 06.22.2007 11:39 PM

If you talk to Serum, It will last as long as you don't hook it up

Serum 06.23.2007 02:28 AM

I wouldn't use the 7XL on 5S, it's too hot; You have got the controller, why don't you save a little and get a Neu motor? they are a lot better than the feigao's.

luvsrc 06.23.2007 07:51 AM

Yeah get the 1600 kv NEU motor and then you can even go to 6s lipo if you want to but not sure on that schultze with 6s lipo

hmmm

i just can't see spending over twice the money on a motor and not getting twice the performance, or are the neu's THAT MUCH better? and won't the 2 pole feigao be easier on my schulze which I already read bad things about? thus far my conclusion is a 9 or 10xl do the xl nemesis/wanderer motors from r/c-monster come pre wired with plugs as do the L cans? Are they blue they look black or blue in the picture, I can't tell, THANK YOU SERUM!!!! This forum is the shiznit and I appreciate all the help guys!

Yes they are, I was thinking the same thing as you till i bit the bullet. I got a 1515/2.5df and all i can say is WOW!!! its kv is similar to the 9XL but runs more torque and much MUCH cooler. Very awsome on 5s and i think it could handle 6s as well

_paralyzed_ 06.23.2007 06:20 PM

4 pole torque

thanks crazyjr, eventually i'll get the neu but i'm stepping up from an hv-maxx so the feigao will already be that much better, but please, stop biting bullets i appreciate you sharing your knowledge, but it's just not worth the risk, maybe get a chew toy! j/k i'll run a feigao then when i get the money buy a neu and e-bay the feigao. Let's hear it for the brainless masses on e-bay that allow us people that read forums and what not to buy low and sell high! hip-hip, hooray, hip-hip, hooray!
