mm or novak
 

hey guys i have a stock stampede and i want to throw a brushless system. what should i put in it. a mamba max 5700 or a novak gtb 3.5r? im going for speed.
also what about if i were to put a mamba max esc with a feigao motor in it and run lipos. hope to hear some ideas thanks 71

i would go for the mamba far more programable and flexable to run with other motrs ect but it depends how many cells you are going to run the novak would be a fater system on a 6 cell pack

go with the mamba max, if you go with the 7700 motor nobody will touch you n 6 cells but your batteries will drain quick, and with the mm down the road yu can upgrade to other motors and lipos, with novak you are stuck to sensored motors, the 4400 mamba max on 3s lipo is insane!!!!!!!!!!!! go mamba!

Mamba is much more versatile and a muh more capable system. My 5700 on 7 cells goes around 40 give or take and on 3s is probably in the low to mid 50's however I do not have a GPS or radar speed reading on it. Believe, 40 mph in a pede is plenty fast off road.

the novak will probably be faster on a 6 cell pack its over 10,000kv but may lack torque for of road the mamba is a safe bet cheaper to what kv depends what batteries you are going to use.

If you aren't going to be racing and speed is the main concern, it's mamba max all the way.

I'd go with the 4600 system. With that you could go from mild to wild just by switching battery packs. On 2S lipo, it would be nice and sedate with long runtimes. On 3S, it will start to wake up. On 4S it will be insane.

I used to run an RC10T4 with a MM 7700 system on 3S lipo and easily got over 60 mph. The 4600 system on 4S lipo would be faster. The 5700 system is fast too on 3S lipo. It can stand gearing much better than my system could. My first choice would be the 4600, followed by the 5700 system.

I'd only go for the 7700 system if you are going to limit yourself to 6 cells or 2S lipo. Running the system on 3S was a PITA.

The Mamba Max will easily do 4S, provided that you disable the internal bec. Other than that, the only limitations on the MM systems is the rpm limits of the motor, which is 65,000 rpms.

I was running my system for parking lot drag racing. I rarely got to full throttle so the motor never wound out. I was relatively comfortable running the setup because Castle tests their motors to 80,000 rpms.

I do have to say that getting it to run reliably was tough. As I said above, it was a PITA. I had to run the shortest tires that I could get. I think I was running Speed Hawg tires with two layers of duct tape on the inside to stop ballooning. The tires are meant for going fast and not general bashing. I'd only get one or maybe two nights of racing out of a set.

I used the largest spur gear that I could get with the smallest pinion that I could use while still getting a decent gear mesh. It was fast. Very fast. At those speeds you really have to take measures to keep the truck on the ground. I always ran with a body and attached a wing to the front of the truck. Weights won't do it.

If I had it to do again, I'd go for the 4600 or 4S. It will tolerate more gearing. For that matter, so will the 5700 on 3S, which is within spec for the system. The 4600 on 4S and the 7700 on 3S are both out of spec and not covered under warranty.

im going to be runing 3s on a mm 6800 when it gets here want to top the 70mph i got out of my ZX5 other week it was still supprisingly strable at that speed.

That's funny too because right on the motor itself, it says 12 cells or 3s lipo. Well, 12 cells is the same voltage as 4s. The only difference is that the lipo voltage won't dip as much, so the loaded voltage would be a bit lower on 12 cells.

on my 7700 it says 8 cells/2s lipo

Castle must assume that NiMH cells will have quite a decent dip in voltage under load. 8 cells in 9.6v while 2s is 7.4v. Saying 7 cells would be more reasonable IMO...

Brian, you know me. I'm not much for specs anyway. I only know that something won't work when I see the smoke signals.

Here is a list of what I think are the fastest of the popular systems, based on what I have heard, kv values, and personal experience.

1. MM4600/4s lipo
2. MM5700/3s lipo
3. Novak 3.5r/2s lipo
4. Novak 4.5r/2s lipo
5. MM4600/3s lipo (faster than 4.5r for speed runs)
6. MM7700/2s lipo
7. Novak 5.5r/2s lipo

The novak motors with the sintered rotor have proven to be very efficient. If we could just run these on the MM esc without cogging issues, they would be the motors to buy for higher voltages as well.
