A guy driving a Maxx with schulze 18.97KW, plettenberg Maxximum and 5s2p A123.

I just feel sad for him. This was a powerfull setup.

It sucks.. I'd like to know what went wrong, seems like the crash had something to do with the melt down.

That was my first impression too. Maybe some electronic component of the schulze went bad after the last impacts and this caused a short.

The owner himself thinks that maybe the foam on which the esc was installed ignited spontaneously due to the very hot schulze ... but i don't think so.

On his previous runs he had some heat related issues with his schulze. It thermaled but never caught fire or smoked (obviously).

Oh Well ... i think this can only be sorted out by schulze. But personaly i wouldn't send this controller back to Schulze. They for sure would see an error made by the user and offer a small discount when buying another schulze. I would rather invest my money in another ESC (Monster Pro, Jazz 80 ...).

Seems you had the same experience? Loose contact. Was this the answer from schulzes support when you send yours in? What happened?

i just got talked into buying a neu motor for my schulze controller, is there anything that can be done to prevent premature failure i'm afraid to use it

Well

. Make sure every electric connection is properly insulated and cannot easely come loose
. Try to mount your ESC so that shocks are not directly transfered to your ESC
. on your maiden run constantly check the temperature of your ESC and your motor ... If the ESC/Motor gets to hot ... change your gearing accordingly
. If your ESC/motor still gets to hot you can mount a small fan or heat sink on your esc/motor
. Check the temperature of your connectors too (Batteries -> ESC)

A monitoring device like the eagletree Micropower could be usefull to check your AMP requirements and see if you're overstressing your ESC. But this is not absolutely necessary. It can help understanding that every small change can affect Amp draw more or less seriously (Mounting bigger tyres for example has a huge impact).

but _paralyzed_ dont worry too much ... I think if you do not overstress your ESC it wont happen ... The circumstances as to why that happened in this video are not obvious and it shouldn't happen normaly ... There are other threads about smoked Mamba Maxxes, MGMs and so on ...

Nice video bro... you should definately send the catching fire part to Schulze.. my 18.129 went to them 4 time already.. each time I recieved it, it lasted shorter and shorter...

instead of a Lipo saver sac, they need a schulze sac.. :)

maybe someone should have started a wall of "shame" for every brand of esc years ago. how nice.
anyway those 3.5mm plugs to the motor are very sensible. i know of some people who just soldered the cables for the motor directly in the bushings. so there is no possiblity for loose contact again. of course that voids warranty. but there isn't any warranty anyway so who cares. :-)

did you have temp shut downs of the controller with this setup before the smoking situation? its a very hot setup. i guess its very much on the limit for the 18.97kw.

I collected pics of smoked BK controllers for a while, but they look less spectacular, and it simple takes longer before you have a collection that's near as big as the schulze.

Feel free to post me any pics though, i had pics of 12 burned schulzes and 2 smoked 9920's Both 9920's where replaced (back in the days when bk knew what service was) 1 of the schulzes was replaced, but ofcourse, with a 25 or 35 euro investigation cost..

it used to be in the rc boating world, Castle B-80's and B-125's were the noted smoke bombs of the day...

truth be told, i emagine 90% plus of esc failures are user error related!

it's crystal clear you have a problem with Schulze
controls and wave it around in public like you're on a mission of sorts and that's fine...

personally i like my Schulze controls and chargers!

and in three years of [on the edge] rc boating [high amp] applications i haven't had a failure to date!

and i've found thier service as good as one could expect being on the other side of the big pond...

email tech support is usually same or next day...

the turn around time and costs of up-dating my controls and chargers hasn't been all that bad eighter...

to each his or her own :010: it's a matter of personal tastes i suppose...
