Feigao magnet let go
I posted that my Feigao 8XL magnet separated after a few laps around my local track. I have some updates so I am reposting here. I finally got my hands on some Loctite #638 so I applied the Loctite and made a jig to hold the magnet steady while the Loctite set. I used JB Weld on the end cap and between the two magnets. I have it back in my truggy and will try it out this weekend. I hope it holds up because I have 4 Feigao motors and I hear this happens a lot.

How did you aligned the rotor? with the magnets being pushed away from eachother?

Serum, it was actually a two-man job. After I put the Loctite #638 on the shaft and inside the magnet (hole) I slipped my alignment tool (basically a big spacer I made from some scrap) over the shaft and clamped the rotor in a vise, snug but not so snug that I could not turn the two magnets. Then using the black line on the two magnets (placed there by the factory) I turned the magnets until the black lines matched up. Then as I held them in place my brother tightened the vise so that everything was pretty much locked into place. I left it that way for 24 hours, then I removed it from the vise, cleaned it up, glued the end piece on with JB Weld and let it cure for another 24 hours. I put everything back together and put the motor back into my truggy. I ran it a bit around the backyard and it felt the same as before (power wise). I still need to give it a good work out at the track to see if it holds up.

That's odd, my 540C 7XL came as a 3 section rotor/magnet. How old is your motor?
|
I bought the motor from RC-Monster about 2 or 3 months ago. May be the 7XL needs 3 magnets (smaller) because of the higher rpm?

Yeah, my Wanderer 9XL and 10XL both have three segments. My 9XL is about the same age, maybe a tad older, but I can't remember now. Maybe it's something specific to the Feigao's, or maybe just the finned versions?
|
My finned 8xl had two segments and I bought it about a month ago. I guess it would be better to get the smooth canned xl motors because 3 segments of equal length seem like they would more consistant than 1 short segment and 1 long segment.

My 9xl was the finned version and it had the 3 magnets, so I don't think that it is only for the moth can motors. It seems like only 8xl motors have 2 magnets... Bye |
