Testing motor and esc?
I have a Stampede with a MM esc and MM 5700 motor in it. I was using the truck last week and it just stopped running. Everything was pretty hot, motor, batteries and esc. I was running a 6-cell 4200 battery pack at the time. When I plug the esc into the computer the lights on the esc will light up. How can I start testing the motor and esc? Does the MM esc have a shut off if it gets to hot?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nick |
Yes, the MM has got a thermal protection; did you tried running it afterwards? what brand of batteries are you using, and what gearing?
Do you hear the armed beep from your setup when you connect the batteries? |
There is no armed beep, the steering does not work, nothing happens at all. I'm running a stock spur gear and 17T pinion (I think). I'm using IB4200 from Boom Boom batteries and I've tried a couple different battery packs with the same result.
When I hooked up the esc to my computer with the supplied usb cord it did make the armed beep noise and all of the lights did come on. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the help. Nick |
How are the connections to the battery? There may be a solder joint coming loose
|
can you get the MM to program with the USB. You said it powered up, but does the software recognize it?
|
Assuming the ESC is still good, it seems like a connection issue including wires, solder joints, and connectors.
If that's not it, it could be the built-in BEC, but you weren't running high voltage through it. If you have one, try keeping the BEC enabled and using a receiver pack as well. |
I can not get the esc to connect to the software on my computer. I have only run the truck a few times, just getting working properly. I need to check the soldering connections and the wiring coming out of the esc to the power switch. What are the best ways to check those wiring connections?

Make sure the USB cable is plugged all the way into the ESC. When I first got mine, I didn't plug it in far enough and the lights came on, but no data connection.
To check wiring, it's usually just a visual inspection. |
