Ok so since the W/E I've now put up for sale / trade my FLM brushless rustler and my brushless mini quake to raise funds for a new project...

I've had one offer for a Mugen MBX5 Prospec w/Truggy conversion (roller) for the FLM brushless (MGM80 / Feigao 7L) rustler - Not sure if this is a good deal... I guess the rustlers worth about 375... Is this a good deal?

So anyway - I'm sure this starts the debate - which truggy to get? I think I'll stick with a MM and was looking to upgrade my lipos to 4S - the nue 30c 4200 packs look reasonable to start with...

Any hints on which conversion to go with - MBX doesn't seem to have motor mount from mike :gasp: to make life easy...

nice but a comes to whopping $203 motor and ESC mount as you have to by a new centre diff to...

$40-$60 for one of mikes motor mounts is sounding pretty good!

There should soon be a mount for the Mugen in Mikes store.

You do realize that for $203 it includes a machined battery tray too, right?

Old thread, and Arct1k probably already bought the truggy but I figured I'd mention it here. I've been burned by one of these seemingly huge deals on a "Prospec" mugen, and its not a prospec.

Never buy a Buggy that has been converted to a truggy. The reason being that it uses buggy arms still and as such it needs hub extenders which are fragile and cause nasty loads on the hub carriers. The chassis is usually shorter, and the short arms and hub extenders make the converted buggy handle like crap.

I've seen these on ebay as well as at the track. The converted buggies never fair as well as a truggy. Its why they are so cheap on ebay. The uninformed buy it, do the conversion and then get whipped at the track so it goes on on ebay to recoup the $$$.

Buy a true truggy, infinitely stronger, and faster. For buggies and truggies that share parts such as the Jammin X1 and CRT you can convert them but it requres that you buy all of the following. Truggy chassis, shock towers, arms, chassis braces, truggy cvds for center/front/rear...etc.. The price of all of these seperately equals the cost of simply buying the CRT Pro kit, or the CRT RTR and upgrading as nessesary.

Well I fell for it and did buy it... Already hit one snag as it came with a very large spur...

I've basically excepted its going to be a stretched buggy with extensions and MT tires with offsets.

I did one run on it over thanksgiving and was happy enough with it.

Ability will be a limiting factor on the race track for me for a while yet...

I was happy enough to trade the FLM rustler for it as got no other offers - Picked up a jammin X1cr for only 125 - Can't complain...

I always treat this hobby as expensive learning experience!

Yeah, occasionally there is no way to get around it, ya get burned every once in a while in this hobby.

However, the good news is that if you could convert it back to a buggy while keeping the extended chassis. The handling would be back and it would handle jumps even better than the buggy would have in the first place. The major weakness to the conversion kits is the short buggy arms with hub extenders, thats what really messes with the handling.

I'm building a 8th scale Trophy truck out of spare Jammin buggy. Its just a 8th scale buggy using the extended truggy chassis, cvd's and braces while keeping the buggy arms. Looks like a scale version of the real life trophy trucks which I love alot. Axial is actually coming out with a 8th scale trophy truck.

So it would be good for that as well. :)
