5v or 6v on ubec?
 

Hello,
I'm setting up my emaxx today. I'm hooking up my Ubec and wanted to know should I use the 6v or 5v position on the ubec? I have a high torque steering servo.

Go with 6v, you'll be able to take the best of your servo.

Yeah, go with the 6V. I'm sure that was the higher number you where looking to use when you put servo in, right?

What kind of amperage can most radio gear take though? I got the Castle BEC and could crank it to 10a if I really wanted to, but don't think my servos or rx would like that. I have a friend who made a couple little linear regulators that put out 5v and 3a, he wired them up in parallel to put out the same 5v but 6a......and made his crawler's Hitec 645MG VERY hot! So, maybe 5a max? I haven't decided if this will be in my crawler or in a different car, but it'll most likely be powering a TowerPro 995MG.

You can set the amperage to whatever you want. Amps aren't what destroys electronics, volts do. The servos only draw the current they need. Too much voltage forces them to draw more than they can handle and that's how they get fried. High-Torque, high-speed, or digital servos usually draw more current, but never anywhere near the 3A continuous rating of most UBEC's.

Well, the Castle one can be tweaked up to 9v and 10a output, but I have yet to see how many steps are in there when you set it up......it might just be 1-10a selectable, but I haven't even opened the thing up!

I don't think you can adjust the amp output, just voltage output. The servo will pull as many amps as it needs/can off a certain voltage. Adjusting the volt output will affect how many amps the sevro can pull, but there is no set amp draw.

you can't adjust the amps, only volts on certain E BEC's, Like the dimension BEC and the castle
