Mamba Max and Novak HV 4.5 Temps. and ?s

well i gave it a go today:yipi:
http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u...s/IMG_1029.jpg
it ran good except it cogs when starting from dead stop

temps were :

motor=105

esc=135-155(155 @ caps and the heat sink was 135-140 with fan)

batterys= 105/118(one has 12g and the other has 14g wire):gasp:

how can i get less cogging ???? (only from a dead stop)

i need to gear down right??? (for lower temps)18/72 & locked in 2nd ... thinking a 12-14tooth pinion...

please help this is running pretty much right where i want it, 35-40 mph

I think I read somewhere that on the throttle graph thing you pull down the curve so there is less power at low rpms, but then it increases rapidly once you hit 1/2 throttle or so- that seems to help with normal MM/feigao setups I believe. Gearing down a little will also help yeah.

The cogging is happening for the same reason why the Neu/MM combo cogs: Both those motors use slotted stators (the MM needs software update for this, but is unavailable as of yet). You can lessen it by reducing gearing quite a bit, but of course top speed will be reduced as well.

You might try to increase the punch control (reducing how fast it starts) and increase the start power...

thanks ill try that, and gear down

btw , what version of software should i use for the mm? when i hook up my esc. it says that there is a newer version

You could use whatever is latest, but I treat ESC firmware like PC BIOS updates; if everything is running fine and there are no specific updates to address some issue, I don't bother. Most of the Castle Link revisions simply contain updates for other components, not just the MM. The MM specific update list can be found here.

well i am using v3.01 and the firmware is v1.09

i tried those things and it helped some , but when i was outside it was fine except when starting from a stop

so until the software update i will have to deal with this right? ill probably just run the 9xl in there instead, i just thought if i could run this motor it would be better for the track, and gears are cheap for 1/8" 32p

BrianG 09.23.2007 06:51 PM

v1.09 is the latest MM firmware AFAIK. Even if Castle comes out with a new Link software doesn't necessarily mean it will contain a MM update,

Yeah, until a fix is released for slotted stators, your HV motor will continue to run like that unless you can find a perfect gearing and MM setting combination that will work.

thanks, i will try to change gearing also, works great if i keep it rolling though but that doesnt make it track worthy

if the software were to be updated my temps would probably be ok then, the cogging is causing some heat im sure

Yeah. When a motor is stalled, it can pull a LOT of current since there is no back-EMF to help limit the current - the only limiting factor is the winding resistance (which is really low), and the ESC/wire/battery limits of course.
