Amp Draw
 

I have a brushless truggy that is currently drawing about 110 amps peak. Would lowering the gearing also lower the amp draw, everything else being the same? The Lipo I am using has a 120 amp burst max, which is pretty close to what I am drawing. I would like a little more safety margin (peak amp draw) so I don't over heat anything. I am using the following: Mamba Max ESC, Feigao 9XL, TrueRC 4s2P 8000mah lipo.

Yes, going with a larger spur or smaller pinion will reduce the amp draw.

In my experience the truerc 4s2P pack is a good solid 15C pack.

I'd quit worrying about amp draw and just watch the temps. If the battery isn't getting too hot, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm running a 5S2P truerc pack in one of my trucks with a 1515 1700kv neu and the battery never even heats up.

You can lower the amp draw, but really that bat is fine. I have one, as do many others, and generally they are underrated. If the batt is getting hot and puffing, or not showing alot of punch, then those are signs its being overdrawn. I regularly pull 120A+ on my TRC 4s 8K batt, and its been running strong for a year. Never gets warm and voltage numbers are still great. Don't worry about it.

Then it must be something else. I had been using my truggy for a while using that setup with no issues (temps ok). Then a few weeks ago I was running the truck and it just stopped. I checked and everything was really hot, so hot the power leads unsoldered from the ESC and the shrink wrap melted off parts of the battery. At first I thought the TrueRC couldn't handle the amp draw and over heated, because after I re-soldered the ESC I used a Maxamp 4s2p lipo and it worked fine. I have since used the TrueRC pack and it to seems to be working ok, so I don't know what caused those high temps that one particular day. Thanks for the feedback.

That could have been caused by anything. Maybe something was stuck in the drivetrain causing some binding to occur.
