E-Savage-8L-9L+mamba max or Velineon?
 
ok i have made my mind up for my last R/C purchase my parents are going to buy for my birthday lol. last year i got a mini inferno wit wraith quark 3cell lipo n so on. arghh hated it. is this a great idea? also i HATE PROGRAMMING BRUSHLESS SYSTEMS i know that the velineon is soo easy and is the same as the mamba max 4-12 cells up to 3 cell lipo could i use a 8L or 9L motor with the velineon ESC? thanks alot guys!

I would go with the MM and an 11L or a 9XL on 4s if it were me. It's hard to beat the PC programming functions of the MM.

with batteries the e savage is a s heavy as an emaxx. I would second the use of the 11l or 9xl. The mm is a better esc than the velineon, just as smooth and runs cooler. Plus you can run 4s or 12 cells, the velinion will not run 12 cells or 4s. The xl can motors will run cooler than the l can, depends on gearing and desired speed. More info about batter choices and overall budget will help. You will not find a cheaper setup than a mm and an l or xl feigao motor.

my budget is probably 250$ for brushless set up since im in Australia thats bout 300$ so yeah. mm planning to run 12cells-14 cells. but probably 12. ive heard that the velineon runs cooler then the mamba:S this person compared it and the velineon was on his stampede and mamba max on his rustler both using 3cell lipos. cheers.

oh and also i would like a motor thats an easy fit. and like not to much stress im 14 n im seriously like F**** in the head i think i got dropd on my head. lol na jus lazy and when i try i wud do the wrong things lol . cheers again

Honestly, the Velineon will run too hot in an e-savage since it can only go to 3s (or around 9 NiMH cells). To get the speed you want, you'll need a higher wind motor, which will be working hard (and pull more current) to push that relatively heavy truck around, and heat up. Not to mention stress on the cells and ESC.

The MM can go up to 4s, which lets you pick a motor with a lower kv and more torque, like an L or XL (preferably an XL). The resulting lower current is much easier on everything.

The MM, 9XL, and 4s (or 12 cells) should be right in the ballpark of what you want to spend, and I think you will be happier with that. And if the 9XL is a little slow, you could go with an 8XL instead. Depends on how fast you want to go and the quality of the cells. Fast and powerful is not usually cheap.

Sure, you may have to be creative about how the motor mounts, but it can be done. Serum has done a few Savages so I'll let him chime in a bit.

Normally the e-savage is lighter than the E-maxx. Mine weighs 4.2Kg (9.2lb) with 12 cells NimH (Fun 600/25 motor and jazz 80 ESC). This motor has a kv of 2500 and propells the car to 35mph+ (16 tooth pinion) when the cells comes warm from the charger.

The motor should not be any longer than 62mm (2.44in) otherwise you would have to dremel the chassis/receiver box. So the XL cans are no direct fit. The L cans are.

One of your cheapest options would be a Mamba Max with a Feigao 540L10 or 540L11. You can find a few videos on youtube with a similar setup in a Ezilla.

I assume a Feigao 540L will require some kind of cooling (heatsink and/or fan).

Prepare yourself to buy some decent NimH batteries too. I use 12 GP3700 cells. Don't tighten the slipper too much or you will brake some drivetrain parts.

The slipper is fitted to the spur gear. The tighter you screw it down the more instant torque goes to your drivetrain. This way you can wheelie on command but it stresses your drivetrain more. Therefore it is better to loosen it quite a bit to protect your drivetrain from shocks coming from landing after jumping for example.

IB 3800 should be a good fit and are similar to my GP 3700.

oo true alrite what heatsink should i use for the L motor mm yeh i dnt like wheelies thats the reason i never go with 2wd's LoL 4wd POWER!

oh thanks also what pinion will i need with it and spur? and i would need to make a Y Connector rite? what wire shud i use ? 12 AWG? 14AWG? cheers.

I suppose the Feigao L cans have 5mm shafts. In this case you will need "5mm bore 32 pitch pinions" which you can find here. I use a 16 tooth pinion with my 2500kv motor. A Feigao 540L10 has a lower KV so i would choose a 16,18 and 20 pinion. Depending on where you live in Australia and the average temperatures you see during the year, you will have some good options with those pinions to keep the temperature in safe limits. With a 16 tooth pinion you will be a tad slower than 35mph. But with the 20 tooth pinion you should top 35mph easely (but this will depend on your batteries -> when they (NimHs) come warm from the charger, they will maintain a higher voltage under load which will translate to a higher topspeed)

After 1,5 years i still use the stock spur. So you are good to go with the stock spur gear ... The best slipper setting is reached when you notice only a small lifting of your front tires when accelerating hard. This way your driveshafts shouldn't break only from motor power and you won't have to deal with wheelies. The driveshafts btw can easely be replaced with the ones found on the Emaxx. They are cheaper and a tad stronger.

The mamba ESC has two wires where you connect your batteries. When using 2 IB 3800 stickpacks (so 6 cells on each side of your truck) you have to connect them in series. When using Dean plugs you could use a Y adapter but not one for paralel connections. When using 4mm connectors you could simply connect the red wire of your first pack to the black wire of your second pack, and connect the remaining two wires to your ESC (that's how i connect my batteries to my ESC).

12awg wires should be fine.
