Revo - 4s 9XL

Now I understand why to run 4s with the 9XL on the MM....

Changes the animal completley from 3.... Swapped from 8400 3s maxamps to a 4s 5000 pack and wow!

I put 2 25mm fans on the RCM motor heatsink and another on the ESC and temps seemed great - I think I'll go for the same setup on the MBX5T...

thats crazy lol. now i cant wait to get mine going lol

Yeah, the 9XL really wakes up with higher voltages. It can run with lower voltage, but you have to gear up to get speed. Being a relatively high wind makes it easy on the speedo (current-wise) as well.

I still have yet to get lipos for my Revo (currently running 14 GP3300 cells) and don't know if I want 4s or 5s yet. The weight savings would really help runtime even though I still get almost 15 minutes.

Arct1k, could you tell me please your diff setup?? do you run the stock diff or you've put Maximizer diff cup, or the RcMonster hybrid? And for the tranny, have you lock it in second or keep the 2 speed intact?

Only problem, i'am not able to decided between the 8XL and the 9XL. I'll run it on Flightpower 4s, 5000 mAh.

I'am to build my e-revo and want to know.

Thank

I am stock at them moment -I went through one rear diff cup when the next one goes I'll swap to an aluminum one.

I have the linkage on a dead servo - so I can manually flip between two speeds - I put two steel idlers in. I run a robinson racing slipper with steel spur on 24/65.

Based on what I've seen now the 9XL will be plenty fast and a little cooler - I've just put 2 x 25mm fans on the motor too.

Cheers

OK as i can read you have an e-maxx tranny???
I want to convert mine with the stock révo tranny, and think to keep the 2 speed intact with the wide ratio, an maybe put the new robinson racing hardened steel tranny gear set. Only downside of this steel gear set is not sure if i'll can make the jato pin mod in the tranny:oh:

And for your motor, you have the black or the purple one??

BrianG 09.30.2007 07:57 PM

The stock internal gears are holding up very well after numerous runs in my Revo, so I don't know if it would be worth it to switch to the metal gears IMO. I don't see why the Jato pin mod wouldn't work, but will require drilling into hardened metal and tapping new threads. Much easier to keep the stock gears.

Don't forget, keeping the 2 speed requires the use of a brake servo and you won't have reverse (unless you keep the mechanical reverse system, which is very weak and requires yet another servo).

Arct1k 09.30.2007 07:57 PM

Yes this is an emaxx transmission conversion.

I have the purple on Feiago 9XL with the RCM heatsink and a couple of fans.

david lamontagn 09.30.2007 08:15 PM

OK good. Briand, do you have stock diff in your revo???
And for the tranny gear, that's what i'am think, keep the plastic is much easier to work with.
And for the tranny, i don't want to have reverse, and my first goal is to keep the mechanical break, because i don't want to pull current from the batteries for breaking.

For the 9XL motor with the RCM heatsink, does the wires of the motor clear the rear upper suspension arm????

BrianG 09.30.2007 08:27 PM

Yup, still using stock diffs and they seem to be holding up fine so far. Of course, I don't mash the throttle on high traction surfaces so that helps. When I do finally blow one, I'll probably keep the stock setup and simply get an Al diff cup.

If you look at my BL Conversions page (in sig), you can see that I oriented the motor so the wires are up and towards the chassis more. The arms don't even come close to touching them. As a matter of fact, I have a little wire support bracket mounted right to the rocker post screw. That should give you an idea where the wires are...

david lamontagn 09.30.2007 08:47 PM

That's good Brian, if i order the RCM motor heat sink, should i take the one taht fit "L" and "XL" can, or the one that fit just the "L" can for my 12L?
Because i'll certainly upgrade to an XL when the 12L will toast.

lincpimp 09.30.2007 08:59 PM

The L can heatsink will be fine for the l and xl cans. The xl heatsink is too long to be used with a l can and still use the clamp function!

hey just wondering what kinda motor your using. i konw its a 9xl but who makes it.

thanks.
