warrior 9918 esc - Lipo questions
I have finished my brushless savage x project and I am running 12 cells at the moment. The weight of these packs are too much. Which lipo batteri would be best for bashing around and how much can the warrior 9918 esc handle. The motor is a feigao 8 XL motor.
I have a charges which can handle 14 cells Nicd or Nihm cells and 1-5 lipo cells. Would a 14.8 volt Lipo batteri with 5000 Mah be too much ?? I will post some pictures of the savage soon. Motor mount is home made. have a nice day |
You could go up to 6s lipo if you wanted to. 6s lipo is roughly like 18 cells, and the 9918 was found to be capable of 20 cells.
14.8v lipo (4s) would be fine. High mAh ratings doesn't mean that much except add to runtime and weight - the system will pull whatever current it needs; the battery doesn't "push" out a certain current no matter what it's rated for. As long as you keep the current draw within ~90A, you'll be fine. You will however want some type of low-voltage cutoff to protect agains overdischarging the lipos. |

Well, I certainly wouldn't run 6s on an 8XL. That's over 46k rpm! I was merely pointing out the max voltage of the ESC itself. Generally, 32-35k is the highest rpm for the XL motors as a rule of thumb. I would run no more than 4s or 14 cells for reliable operation. You might be able to get away with 5s if you're not maxing out the speed all the time. But 6s is a no-no IMO.
