Feigao 9XL Failure

My 9XL failed on me today after only a couple of months - The one of the core magnets cracked :bad:

Anyone had this before - I was running 4s - so only 30k. :surprised:

Sadly it toasted my esc on its way out.... Time for :drunk:!

Is there a waranty programme for them?

Thanks

Seems like maybe Feigao's quality is decreasing, at least on magnets. I had a 12XL that did this a couple months ago (but to the rear-most magnet). However, I was pushing 33v through that motor, and it was overgeared :). Max RPM was about 40,000.

Wouldn't this kind of damage be from impact, and have nothing to do with the voltage/load? I don't think a magnet can bust in half just from spinning itself.

Kinda like the LRP motors that suffer from the magnet coming loose from the shaft.. happens even on a 13.5 motor and I don't think there is even close to enough power for it to happen from sheer horsepower. I think it just happens from impact/shock load.

But who knows... that's just what seems logical to me.

I had an 8L go bad.. burnt windings. Then I ran the rotor from it in a Hacker C50 and that worked pretty good (very fast) but ran hot, and eventually got too hot and killed the magnet.

I can't see impacts wrecking a rotor... otherwise alot more than your motor will be hurting; it would have to be a incredible forces to accomplish this. IMO

They are just crappy magnets.

I don't think the quality is very consistant regarding Feigao motors. I have one 8XL that I have been running in my brushless 1/8 scale buggy for over 60 hours total run time with no issues. I had another one come part in less than 30 minutes. Feigao motors are great for getting you into brushless on a budget but you bascially get what you pay for.

Magnet separated on my 8XL.

Vandal....

There do seem to be alot more issues with the feigao type motors these days, that or mor people are using them so we here of these failures more often. Im wondering if the KB motors have segmented magnets like that- if they dont they might be a good alternative?

zeropointbug 10.07.2007 04:41 PM

Yeah, I wonder if they do? They seem to cost more when you add a rotor that is segmented though, and the KB's are pretty darn cheap! Who know? anyone?

I don't think it's impact... My Savage which was running the 12XL that broke a magnet was run on the street ONLY, and there weren't any crashes that caused it. The truck was just driving, and then all of a sudden the motor sounded like there was something dragging inside.

Arct1k 10.07.2007 11:10 PM

I agree I thought it was centripetal force that did it - That is way the motors have a voltage / RPM limit...

Feigao are actually responded pretty quickly to email and are looking into a replacement... fingers crossed...

Maybe it's just crappy materials going around. I had a motor failure this weekend too. The shaft on my Neu 1512/1.5y slid right out of the motor.

What?

that's not good! Contact Neu, they should probably help you out right away!

Only AAngel could kill a Neu... (I jest of-course).

GD: LOL

It never occured to me..... again you succeed in breaking something that should not break AAngel!

I just don't know about you man. Your kind of luck, this is far beyond 'odds', this is far beyond 'chances'.... you do know what this DOES mean, don't you? You have been cursed!

I swear if I'd try to break my P-Berg by mere bashing, all my battery packs would die before, including the lipos (I mean dying as cycle limit reached)
