Wheel extensions any good? 2IN wider!
 

I was looking around ebay try to figure out how much parters are making on each truck when I stumbled upon wheel extensions. I currently have RPM arms all around and MIP CVD but both are not the wide max versions. SO these wheel extension will make me have the width of a wide max with out having to replace all my CVDs and Arms.

Has anyone tried these or heard anything about them? It seems like it would intensify the stress on carriers and bearings but the payoff would be great.

I tried the wheel extensions a while back. Although they do work, they also serve to apply more leverage to the steering components when you crash. In terms of my turmoil that I was running them on, it meant bent/broken pillow balls, broken arms, and bent axles.

I'd go for the longer arms and axles.

That what I was afraid of. So it sounds like it will cause more damage to everything and then the cost will end up being equal to new arms and CVD bones. Great here goes some more money...$$$$$$$$$

I'm just saying that this was my experience. You might have better luck, because I tend to be really hard on my equipment. Still in all, I'd do it the right way, rather than try to get by.

Have you thought about just going with wider offset wheels? You should be able to get 1.5" overall extra width with wider offset wheels.

skellyo I didn't realize there was wider offset wheels, that wouldn't be a bad Idea. Do you have and suggestions?

Cool well this seems like the way to go and will cause less damage on the rest of my tranny. I really like RPM products so it is looking like the Stablemaxx rims for me. Thanks for all the help guys and out of traxxas forums and the e-savage forums this one has always been most helpful. Thanks!

Another argument agaonst the extensions is they not only put more leverage on the other components in a crash, but they also wear out wheel bearings like crazy. They put a ton of leverage on the wheel bearings and your truck will start eating them like popcorn.

I agree w/ everyone else. Go for the offset wheels, or the longer ams/cvds (or both:tongue:)

I went with ofna 17mm hex conversion w/ 1/2"offset Losi wheels, i gained the 2" you need and its holding good so far

I don't think pillow balls or axles would get any more bent than usual. The fulcrum hasn't moved on those parts so there is no more additional leverage on them. At most I think the hinge pins will bend, but I upgraded my bent stock hinge pins to Lunsford titaniums when they were still on the narrow arms and now that they are on the longer ones they are still straight as an arrow.
