Anyone own an airbrush
 

I am looking to buy an airbrush setup, wondering which ones are good or if anyone has any suggestions. When it comes to tools I prefer buying the best avalable, so cost is not really an issue. I just want a quality tool for painting RC bodies.

Iwata Eclipse CS - i love it. Iwata is the SuperMaxx of airbrushes. very smooth action and flow, and very well built.

plus it's just fun to blow air at my cats with no paint in the gun. get 'em real close, then PSSSSSSSSSST! never knew cats could run that fast! (sorry - i'm not mean to them. most of the time)

Dafni is an amazing painter/air brusher (:lol:).

Sata make some really good guns. I paint cars (own a body shop) and all I use are Sata Jet guns, last forever too. I have experience with Iwata full size guns and they are nice too. From what I have heard you can't beat Sata for longevity. I have a 13 year old gun that still sprays every drop of clear and has daily for 13 years. I have a Sata airbrush, but have not had a chance to use it.

Thanks for the responses. How do you know the area a particular brush can cover, I want to be able to do things with detail but also cover area easily.

you need to look at the specs for the airbrush your looking at. they'll give them based on the needle it comes with - but you can buy a finer tipped needle or a heavier one for larger spray areas.

for example, my Iwata can go from a hairline to a 2 in spray pattern.

I have a Paasche. Its a pretty good airbrush. I don't think there terribly expensive either.

i did a long search a while back and eventually chose the badger anthiem 155 kit. it had all i needed and the price was right. if i had a bigger budget at the time i would have chose the iwata eclispe cs.

Daf is the king of airbrush in my eyes..

He owns one, and he owns too..

He's getting better by the day, perhaps he chimes in..

IMO, as always, these two rules apply here too:
1) you get what you pay for
2) different strokes for different folks

AND, it depends on what do you want to spray. (water or laquer based paints)

That said, I like the Iwata brushes. I use an Eclips and a Revolution. True told, you can do everything you'll ever need for an RC body with the Revolution. Some Pros use the Revolution only.
But yes, the Eclipse is one step up (still not the best from Iwata) and I like it a lot, a very good airbrush. Because of the .35mm nozzle, it won't like the thicker water based paints much, you need to thin them. Of course you could upgrade it to a .5mm tip too.

Honestly, if you just want to paint bodies, get a Revolution. You can use it for all the common RC paints no problem. Just my opinion.
