Ofna Gtp

ok so heres the plan I bought one of these OFNA GTP Oval kitshttp://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXTCJ1&P=ML to run with my bros InfernoGT

I'm going to be running mambamax on 4s6000 MaxAmps geared 18-22/51 depending on motor

I would like to get 45-50mph so I was thinking either 10L (2458kv) OR 7XL (2382Kv). Witch motor will yield the longest runtimes and stay the coolest?(most efficient I guess)

What are the different characteristics between a L or a XL can? Does one draw more amps than the other with similar Kv's?

Do I need the torque a long can makes for onroad as there will much less resistance on asphalt?

What do you guys think would the best choice between the two, or if you have any other suggestions

thanks

Go with the 7xl. I had one in a buggy and it ran well on 4s. I had mine geared for 40mph with a 15t pinion, so you may have more heat than I did. Use the RCM heatsink/clamp and put a fan on your MM if you use that controller.

lincpimp, if you were to run that buggy onroad what kind of run times could you get with a pretty heavy trigger finger?

With a 7xl geared 18t pinion you may get 15mins out of a 6000 4s pack. My setup was over 20mins with a 6000 pack geared 15t pinion. 5s on a 8xl may be a better setup, but then a quark/mgm controller would be required. It would run cooler than the 7xl 4s combo and be able to be geared higher. My buggy is the mbx, so it is identical to the gtp, drivetrain and gearing are the same.

so would a 10L be less efficient because it would be working to hard? If thats the case I guess an XL is a better choice.

Would it be better running a 7xl at 20/51 gearing or a 9xl at say 25/51?

so for comparisons sake if you had a 8xl(2084kv) and a 12L(2048kv) both equal Kv, witch should give a better run time/run coolest everything else being equal?

Is there any advantage to me running an L can in this setup, like less amp draw or longer run times?

The l can motors are too small for your application. The xl motor will run cooler and thus use less amps to move the gtp around. The l can motors are good for 4wd 10th scale conversions, but 1/8 need bigger motors. I would go with the xl can and 5s lipo if possible. The 7xl and 4s will do what you want , but will need fans, where the 9xl on 5s will run cooler. It is up to you, for 45-50mph I would recommend 5s lipo and a 8-9xl. That is what i plan to do when I get my ultra gtp. Or I have a 1300kv motor that I may run 7s on, for some speed runs!

well I think I'm going to go a totally different route.

I have a Neu1512 2.5d (2000kv) that was goin in my 777Inferno but I'm going to use it in the GTP. To get the speed I want I'll have to gear 23/51 on 4s. So I'll just get an 8/9xl for the buggy with a MM and run the Quark in the GtP since it will be at speed more than the buggy I'd rater have the more efficient setup in the onroad.
In the spring I'll grab a 5s for the road car and regear and keep the buggy on 4s since it'll be runnin MM, at least until MMM shows up.

Sounds good, hope you have some good batteries, that is tall gearing!
