Are Metal Trans Gear necessary E-maxx?
I used my mt brushless Emaxx (Fiegao, mama-max ESC, 14.4v) once for about 15min since I built it. I jumped a small jump and when it landed it made a horrid noise. Long story \short A tooth broke off on one of the gears on the inputshaft. The piece of the tooth mushed into my 1st gear while things were rotating, and both gears are ruined.
Does the stock or upgraded 3993x inputshaft by traxxas and stock 1st & 2nd plastic gears hold up? Is this reliable? Or Is the full metal set trans gears the way to go? Thanks For the info in advance |
Just use the stock gears with the steel idlers Mike sells and you should be good.
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...rod=RCM03idler The other possible weak spot in the tranny is the cross pin that holds the top gear to the input shaft. It should hold, but if it breaks it usually just snaps clean and you can replace it with a hardened pin or you could jut replace it before you assemble the tranny again and you should be good to go for a long time. |
Thanks, But I had the steel idlers already in it.

How on earth did you break a tooth off the input gear?? :surprised:
Are you using the stock 2 speed? Or the GM single speed conversion? More information will be needed... have you taken apart your tranny to look at it? |

I'm using the stock 2 speed trans. Should I convert to the single speed? is it better?

Yeah shifting is pointless for electric trucks, espacially manual shifting which you can't do while the truck's running.

I will be leaving the 2 speed feature of the emaxx tranny in my lst conversion. I would like to keep the lower gears for slow bashing and crawling. Who sells the emaxx metal tranny gears? I have some of the gears, but not all of them!

Rc4wd.com has a cheap ripoff of the Ultramaxx gears I believe.

I saw a few sets metal trans gear sets on ebay

I fixed my problem..
My diagnosis is, The inputshaft gear broke a tooth off and then that piece took out 1st gear. The rear diff was also wiped out. I think the diff locked up and shock went to the tranny or Vise versa. Anyway, its all back together with new heavduty diff gearsets and the stock replacement parts for the trans. |
