Brushless Racing REVO buildup lotsa pics!

Well I've been racing my REVO for about a year now and always wanted to go brushless after seeing Tekno test their truck but I just didn't have the money or the knowledge to jump into it. Well I still don't have the money but I've learned a lot by reading up on lipo's, brushless motors and controllers, on this forum as well as others, magazines, etc. and decided it was time. Here is my REVO after a couple races ready to be stripped down.

And the naked pics....

After taking off the mess maker...

I'm gonna give it cleaning before I put on the brushless setup...

And a basic idea of where the electronics are going to go

From Mike I ordered a fiego 9xl and a xl motor clamp, that stuff is all here, need to take some shots of that . Also ordered 2 4s1p 5000mah packs from Truerc, spoke to Dan today, apparently a lot of stuff got ordered at the same time and they ran out so he's just now catching up, hopefully next week they'll be here.
What I still have left to order are my esc and bec. Will most likely go with MM and Casltes bec. Will probably get some fans too. Has anyone had any expierence with Venoms controller? It's rated at 120 amps and 6s lipo, and it's 135 at tower. Since I'll be using mechanical brakes I thought I might give it a try, any thoughts?
All suggestion are welcome and encouraged, I'd love to here any thoughts or ideas. Thanks for looking:smile:

It looks like an air esc so you will have issues - you'd need a posix (check spelling) converter to fix the voltage on the control.

MM with UBEC on 4s with 9XL is fine...

Matthew_Armeni 10.17.2007 06:25 PM

Well I couldn't find anything close to "posix" converter. What's wrong with the voltage? Just thought I might later go to a 5s or 6s setup and with this thing being so cheap, it was worth looking into.

It's not so much the voltage but rather how air radio systems work. Min throttle on an air radio is brake/reverse on a car radio. The posix (or whatever it is called) translates the signal from the receiver so the ESC is receiving the right signal from a car radio. You usually don't have brakes unless you use a servo.

Also, air ESCs don't seem to have the pulse or burst current rating that a car ESC does. Airplanes tend to have a higher average current draw with less bursts than a car. A car system usually has very high bursts with a quite small average current.

I think he meant "PiStix". It stands for "Pistol" and "Stick" since it adapts an airplane controller to be used with a pistol radio.

That thing is filthy. You must have had fun. I take it you don't have a misses. Mine would have killed me if I brought that into the house.

jnev 10.17.2007 10:28 PM

I think that thing is called a PiStix adapter. I am almost certain thats the name.

Edit: I had this page up for a couple hours already accidentally. The answer came just a little late.

:lol:I do actually. She knows how much I'm into R/C so she kinda lets me get away with it. Plus we live in a small studio without a garage, there's really no where else for me to wrench, all my stuff is either driving around with me in the back of my truck or in storage. I really am lucky she's so understanding:yes:

yea my gf is the same way. i make a mess at her house and shes ok with it.. im just stuck shopping for 4 hours the next day:rofl:

phidailo 10.18.2007 01:28 PM

joker: it's funny that you said that because i can totally relate

lincpimp 10.18.2007 01:34 PM

Matthew, you might want to try a boat controller, as they are setup for a wheel radio, usually no brakes or reverse. The castle barracuda or hydra are nice, not sure if the aquacraft supervee esc will handle that motor, but it is good for 4s lipo. The hydra is the newer version of the barracuda and is good for 6s lipo, it has a cutoff too, IIRC.

Well it's all assembled, went with a Tekno setup as opposed to fabbing stuff myself. Pics will be up by tonight (hopefully) as well as descriptions of how it went. Will have feedback on driving as well as racing by Sunday, Saturday I'll be at Barona racing it and my messmaki.... err.. nitro 8ight.
Sorry to tease!

entjoles 11.02.2007 09:27 PM

:lol:hurry up!!!

jk, hope it goes together well , let us know how well the clutch pinion thing works

wheeldean 11.02.2007 10:03 PM

Must of next day the tekno kit, mine wont be here til next week. Cant wait to see some of your pics.

lincpimp 11.02.2007 11:07 PM

Yep, I have a tekno kit coming too, the price was too good to pass up, plus I found a revo roller for 155 with a ton of spares. I still need to go thru it and makes sure it is in good shape! Will be interesting to see how well the clutch adapter thingy works! I am thinking of going with a 15l on 5s, or maybe aveox will get my 2000kv motor back to me in time. I have a quark 80 air esc to use as brakes are not a concern.
