hinge pins ????
I am ordering some parts for my E-Maxx and and trying to figue out if I need anything else.
Which hinge pins and bulk screws can I use with:
Thanks |
All the FLM stuff is advertised as fitting stock T-Emaxx parts, so the stock stuff should fit. I'm hoping my hybrids will show up today (ordered last Wed) and I bought set of lunsford TI pins for them. They better fit or I'm out of luck, at least temporarily, lol!
I've not read anything about the hybrids needing anything special as far as hinge pins are concerned. |
Thanks. As I understand it either Lunsford or UE titanium or JD carbon pins will work.

The last ones i got took a special length for the bottom ones.

Hybrids do need a diff length pin -
I got my hybrids 15 min ago and there were two pins included in each that are not stock length, so I was wrong earlier. I guess FLM doesn't say anything since they are included. My bad for guessing.
Stock length hinge pins are 2.815" (71.5mm) and 2.274" (57.8mm). The new pins in the FLM kit is 2.568" (65.2mm). Laying the bulks next to my emaxx I'm not sure I understand why longer is needed, but I will find out later tonight when I have the time to start the swap. I gotta get back to work right now. Here's another place to supply stock to make your own - these are ejector pins and are the hardest of any of the pins I've seen (thanks Chad Knorr over on UE) - hard enough they won't bend but will break instead when finally stressed enough. No more bent pins and the messes they cause getting them out. These are harder than anythging I could find at McMaster-Carr. http://www.plastixs.com/ep01.html?gc...od6SdNgQ#6inch |
i just used one pin on each side and the stock screw thing for the upper longer pin location. i plan on ordering the traxxas upgrade kit sometime.

Diff - hybrids vs stock type bulks, Lwr Hinge Pin
Now that I've gotten the bulks pulled off, I can see why the bottom pin has to be longer. They changed the design so that the lower A arm is fully "captured" by the bulk. Stock, the rear of the front lwr arm has the pin/eclip against the plastic arm - FLM hybrid extends the alum so that the rear of the arm is no longer "exposed" and the pin/eclip is against alum on both sides of the lwr arm.
They did same in the rear, except the added alum is toward the front of teh rear bulk since thats where the a arm was exposed. This is a stronger design as far as the lwr hinge pin is concerned since its now supported by the bulk on both ends. |
what ever you do, don't use the hinge pins that come with the bulks. I bent one off of a 2 foot jump. They will come with AP screws to use. I included the screws with your chassis as well.

Thanks, I ordered the Lunsfords that you sugested.
No FedEx yet. I will sit on the truck for a couple of days. Thanks Katrina.:diablo: |
I emailed Lunsford yesterday and here's the reply I received from them -
Hi Harold, We don't have a pin close to the size you need. Even if we had one, 1/8" titanium would still bend under that kind of stress. 1/8" drill rod is the strongest material to use with those aluminum parts. You will have to drill and tap for a set screw. Really if FLM can make the arm and bulkhead, why not use at least a 4mm pin. Even that may be too small for a fast E-Maxx that jumps. Sincerely, Kelly Lunsford mkrusedc, which set did you order, if you don't mind sharing the info, I'm curious? I'm waiting on some drill rod I bought to make two sets of VBS Hinge pins for my UE Thunder and Lightning, but those don't use clips. I really don't want to drill and tap these hybrids for setscrews. I would like to try TI pins and see how they do. |
:oh: I hope they fit. These:

Thanks - please post back when you know if they'll work.
I have run into a delay (another one) - the front hydrid went together so well, UE 6 spyder diff, shimmed butter smooth with no play. The rear was not machined properly, the pinion/beargings fits way too loose and has a lot of play, so I've got to get past that. But I'll get there! |

http://www.lunsfordracing.com/mm5/me...ode=TRUC-TRTM3 I just got the pins and bulks in the mail today.:yipi: I'll install over the weekend. |
I have a set of these sitting on my workbench and I think you'll find there are two - the middle length pins - that are the right size. That leaves you needing another set to get two more pins though.
I got the replacement rear hybrid yesterday from flm and its correctly machined in the pinion brg area. Got it assembled last night and its like the front - zero play and butter smooth. I was dismayed to find these bulks will not work with UE knucklehead towers though! Never have seen this mentioned anywhere. |
