Electric Losi 8 buggy weight?
I am in the process of a Losi 8 buggy E conversion and I wanted to know what the norm would be for the weight of this setup?
I put everything in the chassis and weighed it and it looks like 120 ounces is the all up weight (including my Eagle Tree). The setup is; Neu 1515 12S Flight Power 2170 cells Castle Creations HV 110 ESC Nomadio reciever (React transmitter) VHV-BEC Hand machined motor mount MIG welded piano wire roll cage under the body (this would add a few more ounces if I go with it). Does that weight sound correct? If so, this this should absolutely rip the tires off! This same power system is running in my top speed TC4 (110+ mph car) and draws 3500 watts. In this application, I would think 2500 watts is what I will be seeing reliably. Any thoughts? Matt |
sounds about right... that's what mine is (actually I think mine was less with a 5000mah pack... like 7.2lbs)
A clean nitro 8ight is about 7.25 lbs without fuel IIRC |
normally a truggy without tires/motor/controller/batteries/body weights about 4.4 lbs. with tires/motor/wheels/servo my guess is 8.4-8.5 lbs.

My kyosho buggy conversion is right at 8lbs.

Cool, thanks guys.
I figured as much. But, this is my first 1/8th conversion. So, I wanted to find out what I could about it before I proceed. I could go down to 8S and save alot of weight. Plus the power would be more reasonable. But, heck, I see no reason not to go all the way. :mdr: Matt |
rtr with batteries? Mind you; he will be using the mechanical brakes.

I own a bunch of bench top milling machines (Taig 4 axis CNC, manual 4 axis, and lathe). I can make anything. I miss my old MP6. So, I figured I would build an 1/8. Here is a truck I am in the process of building too. Matt |
I would add 3-4 ounces for the brake servo, another for the eagle tree... so yeah it will be more than mine.
I would guess about 7 3/4lb plus the roll cage. |
Gotcha.
Yes, I will be running a brake servo. The HV 110 has a terrible brake (if you can even call it that). It is, after all, an aircraft ESC. Actually, I already added weight. The scale told me 110 ounces without the brake servo or Eagle Tree (I will just run my Micrologger). But, I am adding a few ounced into my calculations for wiring I haven't considered and misc. hardware I haven't considered. Matt |
that's one nice crawler like vehicle. Got more pics of her?

Here are a couple.
They are mostly of the motor area because I took them to highlight the new layout. It used to run a huge AXI outrunner in the center of the chassis. Now it runs a Neu 1512 "Under the hood". It is not a crawler. It is a bashing truck. It snaps wheelies on demand. ;) Matt |
12S is awesome dude.... I love i

Any chance that you would make me one, or possibly sell it to me? I love collecting the strange and wonderful rc creations people come up with. Figured that there is no harm in asking?! |

If you are serious, I am willing to discuss it. But, again, this thing is worth an enormouse amount of money. Heck, I haven't even finished this latest upgrade yet (the steering servos, 4WS, and transfer case). Thanks for the kudos, though. Actually, this thing is nothing. Here's a pic of a CF heli I completely scratch built. I just enjoy the challenge of designing something and seeing it come to fruition. I hope the Losi turns out this nice. Matt |
