Team VTX 1/16th scale Brushless

Has anyone converted one of these or ran one for that matter? I read the recent review in RCCA and I saw them in my local hobby shop and they look like they are built really well. They almost look like a FLM converted truck/ buggy. They have a 2 speed transmission too. They are a little bigger+ heavier than the normal mini's like the rc18 or MLST but much smaller than the CRT.5 or 10th scales. I wonder if a Neu 1506 would fit?

i've been wondering about converting one of the mini nitros over myself. i would think they'd have stronger diffs than the 1/18th.

Mike SHOULD make a motor mount for this baby. Damn! That's one sexy, tough micro buggy.

My LHS has it pretty cheap $160, I wonder if Mike would make me a mount if I sent it to him?

I hear they are pretty solid. I'd also look into a Mini Inferno 09 and maybe a Trinity Next. All those come with pretty solid drivetrains. I think 70-80% of the VTX parts are compatible with the Kyosho MI-09.

A center diff/motor mount would be nice, but there are tons of existing mounts you can use like the MQ mount, 1/12th scale mounts, etc... you just need to know how much space you're working with and what size motor you want.

I'd suggest a 400 sized (28mm diameter) BL motor for the 1/16th projects. Of course, feigao makes some great 400 motors for very cheap. The 380-8T (~4700Kv) is very potent on either 2s or 3s lipos. I also like the Kontronik, Permax, Great planes ammo, etc... All are just as efficient as Neu motors, with 2-pole designs so that cogging is almost non-existant.

I'd also use a MM for the esc. the 1/18th scale esc's just don't take enough amps for a truly good conversion.
Anyways, the MM is only a few more $$$, so its an easily justifiable upgrade.

That's a perty good looking set up to convert the 2 speed is going to be a problem finding a pinion? I like the aluminum suspension I would convert the truck over the buggy more room under the body to play with. The Mamba ESC should be fine if your worried then go with the Quark 33a ESC a MM is not needed and would be a waste of money in a 1/16th scale truck IMO. :)

Looked like it has a two speed after the CB instead of on it like most, so it shouldn't be a problem.
