Gorilla Maxx Motor Mount with Novak Brushless

Hi all

I am a forum newbie so be gentle if I am asking a stupid question!!
I have just purchased and fitted gorilla maxx chassis, single speec conversion and motor mount.
The problem lies with the motor mount as the motor sits towards the rear of the chassis.
This means having to reverse the motor (just reversing channel doesn't work).
Does anyone know how to reverse the brushless motor?
Is it just a case of switching the blue and yellow wires?

I don't want to risk anything blowing up. It cost me a fortune!!!

Please help......anyone

Welcome to the forum, shaggy.
Mike once told me there is no such thing as a stupid question. And the people here are very helpful and nice.

I can't help you with the Novak. On sensorless systems you can program the direction on the controller, or simply exchange two wires. On sensored systems, I could imagine you should be able to program this. Have you checked the manual?

However, one of the HV guys here will help you out.

Thanks for reply, here hoping for some expert advice!!

How about programming your controller with the one touch setup?

Did you tried that?

I think that might teach him what is forward and what's backwards?

I looked into the manual, but could not find anything about reversing the system.. So i guess a simple re-programming might help you out..

Otherwise, you could flip the transmission or swap the diffs..

Flipping the diffs (as Serum said) will definately do it.

I run my e-maxx with a backwards tranny and i had to flip the diffs to do it, should be the same for the gorilla mount

A sensored brushless is much like a brushed motor. In order to reverse the rotation, it has to have its timing adjusted 180 degrees (Novak would need to do this). Simply turn the diffs over as metalman mentioned and you will be good to go.
By the way, Welcome to the forums!

Hmm, I run a maxcim N32 sensored brushless system and reversing the rotation is done by simply adding or removing a jumper. Sorry I can't help with the HV though.

This might sound silly but couldn't you just reverse the input from the radio/throttle so that forward is backward and backwards is forwards. Just a thought...

Aveox does the same thing with a jumper wire, clip the wire rotation reverses. I've seen a ss5800 up close and i didn't seea jumper wire

Reversing the radio won't work with a timed motor(most sensorless motor have advanced timing, which would result in "retarded" timing if you simply reversed the direction without changing the timing, which would result in a hot, inefficient and under powered motor).

Thanks for all the help guys. Have tried reversing tranny but doesn't work! Will try flipping diffs but not sure how this will work!! Please explain

Serum 07.13.2005 03:02 AM

If the back of the motor faced to the front of the motor, it needs to be facing the rear of the truck.. (the complete transmission needs to be changed 180 degree)

Flipping the diffs is easy, too. They are flip-able, ambidextrous, so to say.
Just remove them, flip them 180 degrees (along the axis of the input pinion), so the ringgear will be on the other side, and re-install them.

Amen...
