Novak HV won't Work in new E-maxx
when you try to slide the pinion on the HV motor to line up with the spur the motor shaft is not long enough...the new e-maxx has more space between the spur and motor now..., a pinion that has a longer shaft might work ,,,here is a link to 5mm long shank pinions http://www.megamotorusa.com/ look under new stuff and scroll down

Novak called me and is aware now and is getting a truck to see what they can do..he commented longer shafts and longer pinions will prob add stress and be a shaft breaker, he said they may look at moving spur closer etc ...so it doesent look great for now....no simple solution he said...they will update site in week or two with an update he said....anyone need a novak hv setup?...lol

I find it hard to believe that the spur sits that far from the motor shaft as the stock brushed motors would run into the same problem.
I've never had faith in the 1/8th shafts so it sounds like you need a 5mm shaft with a Mega long shank pinion. |

is there any gap between the spur gear and motor plate? if so I would think you could put a spacer (washers or another cut motor plate) beteween the transmission housing and motor plate to close the gap, how far off is it?

I'll take a close look at this also. My plans are to strip the motors/esc and sell those anyways. I'm tempted to take that transmission apart and get a close up view of what it's made of. :yes: |
If this a problem on the HV maxx why wouldnt this be a problem on other motors as well?

The Revo style slipper engages a pin that goes through the input shaft. Is this slipper really that much thicker than the original? Hmmmmmm....... |

I have a HV Maxx here on hand. (along with a bunch of other motors) I'll check it out as soon as mine gets here.
I hope it isn't that way. It's just going to add another element to doing conversions. BUT, let me ask this. Is there that much difference in the motor shaft length on the vxl motor? They used twin vxl's in the demo maxx. |

Ok, I did a similar conversiopn to the old emaxx tranny using a revo slipper and mgt mod1 spur gears. Traxxas is using the same backing plate on the slipper that the revo uses, and I am sure that they have left a small (1mm) gap between it and the motor plate. The motor plate appears to be the same thickness as the stock plate in the old emaxx. Since the new emaxx spur mounts to the top of the slipper (like the revo spur) there is some spce between it and the motor plate (more than a std emaxx peg slipper )
I just did some mesurements on my old emaxx tranny with the revo slipper and spur. Looks like a 12-15mm long shaft (from the front plate of the motor) would be sufficient, as long as the pinion is oriented so that the setscrew is betwwen the gear and the motor plate. I can't imagine the hvmaxx motor having a shaft shorter than 12mm. A feigao L can motor has a 15mm long shaft for comparison purposes. |
I have an older style HV 4400 here.
It's shaft, measured from the mounting surface, is exactly 15mm long. |
