dang hidden water in the ditches
 

i was running my emaxx for the first time with good tires (road rages maxx size) that i bought today. its amazing how going from cheap $20 ebay tires to quality ones can change your truck. i was having a blast. anyways i ended up going off the road just a little and i seen a small splash. it didn't even go up much higher than the bumper. i calmly backed out to the street and ran it back towards me. on the way back right infront of me i got a small glitch, then a small stream of smoke. panic then set in. my bk9920 may be done. there wasn't hardly any water on the truck at all, but something must have made its way to the esc. i let i dry for a while, and tried it again, but i again got a little smoke. reverse worked perfect, and forward glitches and causes more smoke. i letting it rest over night and trying it again tomorrow. i have only gotten one run out of it since i got to where it should have been reliable, and a real nitro killer. whats worse, is that i've been working rediculas overtime and all that extra dough is going towards christmas for others. i may have to tell the wife i want a mgm esc, but she thinks rc is a waste so i'll have a hard time pulling that one off.

that sucks dude.... doesn't take much water to kill those ESCs...

Aww man that SUCKS! Sounds like some of the FETs got nuked.

Maybe a cheap little MM would slide by the wifey.... tell her you can sell the 9920 after it gets repaired and get the MM $$ back. :)

A new 9920 is actually cheaper than a MM. MM is $137, the 9920 is $125 in the RCM store and you dont need a UBEC for the 9920.

A MM is a better ecs from the standoint of the built in LVC and programability, but on 4s you do need to use a UBEC. The other plus side is the MM is supposed to be "splashproof" which in your situation would have been very nice to have.

Only problem is they are out of stock, and Mike won't be getting any more as he was clearing out his remaining stock.

True... although my LHS sells the MM for less than 125 ;)

Explain to the boss that in addition to being more waterproof and better all around, the MM also has a great warranty/service so you won't be in this position again. It's easy/cheap to get a MM fixed.

ha ha, i fixed my situation. i financed my wife a movado watch and 1/4ct diamond white gold ear rings and just bought a used mgm160 18 esc. works out as less money out of my pocket right now, and if i pay it off in 6months no interest, and i got her a really nice xmas gift that shes not expecting. its all in the bag, i think i wont get in any trouble.

oh yeah, i forgot to mention i'm running 6s2p a123 so the mm wasn't an option, i wish it would have been. i didn't want to chance dropping voltage and gearing up out of fear i would drawl too much current for that esc. i'm running the kb45mm xl motor.

i do feel lucky to find that deal. i saw it right before this happened to mine and had to return to get it.

Those hidden puddles can be a killer. I was out at a road construction site driving my savage around and it disappeared into a ditch I didn't see. I saw a big splash of water go up into the air and my heart stopped waiting to see if it would emerge from the ditch and thankfully it did. It was a nitro savage though but I was still lucky cause when I went and had a look it was no small puddle. The worst bit was cleaning all the mud off. I learnt my lesson though. I don't go driving off into the distance when I can't see clearly anymore.

yeah, i try to stay in clear site. i knew the ditch was there, just didn't know the water was. it was below the grass level and i couldn't see it.

the esc is toasted, i tried it again yesturday. i took my chances getting it at mike's clearence prices going off my usual luck with electronics. now i'm stuck with no service. there's a electronic's repair place that i know about. i took an amp upthere for repair and my cousin has taken a few radio's and they guy does great work for pretty cheap. best part is he also gives 90day warrenty when he's done. i'm going to see if he can pull the boards apart and replace what i smoked. i'm pretty sure its a simple fix for somebody that repairs electronics. it seems to all work, but coggs lightly going forward and has a little smoke only in that direction coming from inbetween the boards. if it looked easier to pull apart, and i knew i could get the parts myself id just attempt it. i'll see if he can work with me first though.
