Can I extend the esc leads that go to the motor ?
 

If I need to can I extend the esc leads that go to the motor or is this not reccomended? Also I have a MGM 160 controller going in my revo, where are you guys mounting them, should the controller be mounted on the thinner side so that the heatsinks are both exposed or can I mount it with one of the heatsinks facing down?Also what size connectors should I use to connect it 3.5mm or 4mm ? Also are there any special soldering tips to for bullet connectors ...never soldered any before...thanks

You can extend the leads, but it's best to keep them as short as possible. I would really try to rearrange things instead and only lengthen if absolutely needed. If you do lengthen them, make sure your joint is very solid, so I would not use a set of bullet connectors to do this. Either directly solder the wires or use these (strip off the plastic sheath, tip the wires and connectors, solder the wires in each end, and then heatshrink it).

I think you should try to mount the ESC so it gets adequate airflow on both heatsinks if possible. You might have to fab up some type of mounting bracket, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

Use the largest connectors that will work since they will handle more current. No special advice for soldering them really. Just tin the wire and the connector socket so it makes a very solid connection. Oh yeah, and don't touch the connector with your hand when soldering. :wink:

Thanks does anyone make a bracket for mounting an esc on a revo?, I know tekno makes one for mounting on top of tranny ...any others?

Not that I know of. Gotta remember that there are so many ESCs out there that you're probably just gonna find more generic ones like the tekno plate. You could simply pick up a metal L bracket and mod it specifically for the ESC.

I use simple L shaped aluminum profile to mount my MGM with one side and bottom heatsink touching the mount. as long as ESC gets some airflow it will be ok. And I use 5.5mm bulletconnectors as bigger=better :)

soldering is easy - just tin the wire, tin the connector and while the tin is melted just put the wire inside the connector and hold it for a second to cool off.

Thanks brian and wallot ...won't the 5.5 connectors be too big for my wire? or is it still better to use the bigger better flowing connectors? Also on the mgm160 i have it is threaded on the heatsinks for small screws, does anyone use those holes to mount theirs on the side vs on top of one of the heatsinks?

No reason why you couldnt mount it on its side like that- I think someones BL savage had its MGM esc mounted that wat on a special purpose built plate. Nothing wrong with using the 5.5mm bullets either, but you might prefer the 4mm type as they stay 'springy' for longer. Got a photo of your setup, might help to figure out a new mounting setup for the electronics....
