Maybe my next project....1/5 scale brushless

I have been waffling on what my next brushless project should be...this just might be it.

Pretty cool video...I wonder what type of ESC and motor they are using?

Has anybody here done a 1/5th scale brushless project? Pics? Vids? Setup specs?

FineDesign has Brushless 1/5th Firehammer M/T...

Looks cool...but I think the MCD stuff is better quality than the FireHammer. Opinions?

aqwut 12.27.2007 06:23 PM

I'm not sure about the MCD quality.... I've never had one... but I'm pretty happy with the firehammer M/T, it's uses most of the parts from the FG Marder.. only thing that sucks about the firehammer is the 2WD, and the 4WD kits costs a lot for the FG Marder... but the MCD stuff sure are expensive....

Hopefully some others on here will reply with their insights as to the quality of MCD products. I have seen them at a LHS and they appear impressive, but I have zero experience with them. I wonder what kind of ESC and motor they used....

I'm actually really close to finishing my 1/5th scale brushless sedan

tashpop 12.28.2007 11:03 PM

definitely fun, i have a 1/5th scale car for 400 bucks and it only weighs 12 pounds!

tashpop 12.30.2007 04:57 PM

i found an interesting esc. i don't know if its commonly known, but it looks cool.

i don't know anything about the power jazz esc's, but aren't they all able to be programed for car use?

I am familiar with Kontroniks but not that controller. Specs are interesting though...

aqwut 12.30.2007 05:36 PM

I think Lutach has one of those...

I have almost all the Kontroniks, but not the PowerJazz. I'm trying to get Mike (Kontronik Mike) to make the PowerJazz for car use, but it might be out of the question. I have the Jeti SPIN-200, Actronic 120 and 75. My own 15S brushless ESC might be done sometime next year. I have other sources for HV ESC though.

Lutach,
How do you like the Jeti SPIN-200, does it have brakes or do you need mech. brakes?

I didn't try them yet. I did get a SPIN-75 to test out the features. It does work with a pistol grip radio and the brake is made for aircraft use to fold the prop. You can even set the brake strength and it work, but it is not proportional like a car ESC. I was going to try and replace the MCU on it, but I might do that with my old Jeti 70 ESC.
