FLM Hybrids and GM G3 Race Suspension

Was wondering if anyone's done this already?? The lower arms (at least on the rear) fit with no prob. Its the upper arm that going to be trouble. The flm hybrid has 4 alum bosses for the upper mount and the GM upper arm has 3, but they are all fairly small. No matter how the arm is placed, there a ton of room between the alum bosses letting the arm move back and forth.

I'm not planning on using the G3 towers which leaves me with the spacers. Maybe I can mod them to fit so take up the room on the hinge pin??

Didn't see this PIA coming, lol!!

Theres nothing wrong with either...Use the stock castor clips.

I've got somewhere in the neighborhood of 3/8" to make disappear, there's a lot of play - not enough castor clips (I guess I could get more).

Somethings not right if you have that much room. Take a picture if you can.

I'll put up a pic after I get home from work later today.

I use the hybrids and g3 suspension it all fits great EXCEPT you have to cut a piece out of the rear bulkhead for clearance, like in these pictures. they where loose at first but after shimming with the bushings they gave me, and using my own shims i got them set up good with very little to no slop.

Glad my pictures came in handy. The caster shims that Gorillamaxx provide take up all of the slack, or you can use a short piece of fuel tubing etc- whatever you have to hand.

Yeppers, as you can see once my DA did some fiddling with caster spacers, I realized that all I had to do was get the "middle" shimmed and there'd be no play. squeeforever, worked like you said it should.

I'm swapping over to 3.3 axles, tbs and carriers, deal on eBay just to cheap to pass on and from their rep for strength, solves cvd issue as well. Unfortunately, I have that messy change to make in the diffs to change stock UE outputs RC Mike's pieces to run 3.3 axles, which I have already.

Neil, I looked and agonized over your experience in having to cut that boss to make yours fit. Decided to get the suspension anyway and try to mod the arms, not the bulks. BTW, kudos for your write up Neil, it's helped! The G3 was just too cheap to pass on (nip, way less than 1/2 price) and I wanted something a little extraordinary which the G3 does really well. But now that I've looked, something has changed and I don't see having to mod the front hybrids. These should fit heads up. Appears FLM has changed them or I'm using diff bulks. When I get to the front, I'll post a pic when I get them assembled.

good idea with the shims in the middle i would have never thought of it ill give it a try sometime.

squeeforever 12.28.2007 11:04 PM

Looks good. Only thing I see that you might want to change it the position of them. I would put them at the front and back instead of center.

Duster_360 12.29.2007 02:00 PM

This is on the rear end - I'll be using them for caster adj on the front end like GM recommends - all the way back or all the way forward. I guess like I've got them now, it would be zero caster??

Squee - I'll try that when I start with the front, but my impression was the gaps at the front and back are bigger than the caster shim - it'd allow back and forth arm movement on the hp. I'll check into that. I've never bent a hp, but it dawns on me it might be better to support the ends rather than the middle. I don't have enough to to both unless I get more. I bet you're more likely to bend a hp at the end that in the middle....

I got the rear finished last night and really like how the 3.3 stuff fits and looks. TRX really made those pieces hefty this time. The tbs are thicker than the UE tbs. Will get to the front end after lunch and a few chores later this afternoon.

GM360 - in the middle it makes for a tight fit, arm can't move.
