mt tires for high speed?
 

i'm looking for something that'll stay somewhat together for high speed passes. right now i have some pinned tires that are taped that still flap and come unglued and unbalanced at high speeds, and a set of road rages that stretch and come unglued at high speeds. basically, i can't seem to keep them glued. i really don't like taping them up. i found that the side walls still stretch and i get a l-l shaped tire with it taped. also this really seems to upset my truck. i prefer to let the tire still stretch some so it keeps round and a better contact patch. plus it helps keep contact if one tire lifts by expanding that tire due to unloading on it.

a couple of thoughts i've had are to search for maybe a denser foam,harder tires, going to 40 series for the shorter sidewalls, or maybe looking at the narrower truggy tires like the proline mtr's. another thought was going with some beadlocks, but i've never messed with them and i've heard they add alot of weight. if anybody has battled with this(im sure several here have), please let me know what you've found and what seems to help. the lhs suggested i do a web search for some monster truck foam tires. that would be nice i guess, but i would like something i can also go off road with too.

Difficult to see how you could get much balooning on these 40 series...

Beadlocks won't help stop the balooning... I've just started running them and had one tire come off but might not have had it tightened fully...

Would the 40 series road rage... be a good candidate... but i've never tested them off roading..

Panthers Komodo Dragon mount on Ofna half offset dish wheel. very difficult to mount, but verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry firm, and don't balloon at all.
But it's 4.65" of diameter, so you have to gear it up to compensate.:wink:

i don't really mind the ballooning to an extent if i can keep the tires on the rims. i know i'm not the best gluer, but i try my best. i didn't scuff the wheels before hand like i've seen in rc mags. i plan on doing it with my next set.

i think they are basically an offroad version of the hpi phaltline, which i'm also considering.

I say try the Phaltlines, but your absolute best bet would be to find some 40 series Jaco foams. Only thing is they quit making them quite some time ago and are fairly difficult to come by.

If you vent the tire like the pro off road racers you will get very little if any balloning. Take a leather puncher on second or third from largest setting & punch a couple holes on opposing sides.

do you mean like in the sidewalls? you have a pic of what you're talking about?

I use the maximizer bead locks on my maxx with proline badland tires. It was difficult at first to put the tires on the rims, but i have learned with the maximizers that there is a right way and a wrong way to install them. My first attempt at attaching them they seemed to be fine but the where off balance, and the tire was out of round. Then I discovered a technique to getting the blocks to work properly, and I reattached each rim and tire and they turned out perfect. I use them in my max with 4s lipo and a Neu 1515 and it balloons like i have never seen before. Although I only drove the car for about 5 min before the quark blew up the tires never showed signs of coming off, and are snugly secured to the rims right now.

did you see any bad effects with the add weight?

No not on the sidewalls but on the treaded portion of the tire.
