sheared pin on top shaft in tranny
 

anyone ever shear the pin(in an e-maxx) that holds the drive gear(2nd, in this case) to the top drive shaft in the tranny...???. i've thought about replacing the pin(rather than just but another top shaft) with something stronger than the roll pin that traxxas uses...........maybe a drill bit(or drill blank)..???

I dont think that happens very often. If i were you i would just buy a replacement pin from mike or traxxas.

I have broken one before, just go to the hardware store, they only cost about 15 cents. Buy a spare or two.

traxxas offers a lightend top shaft that is supposed to be stronger. im not sure if it uses the same rollpin or not.

gotcha.................but, tell ya what i did.went to the hardware.found a hardened hex key that fit the gear easily but binds in the shaft.........coated the inside of the gear and coated the shaft w/JB WELD and slid the gear in place........used a press to force the key in place. INDISTRUCTABLE now.

Normally those pins are hardened. i once broke one from my savage's diff.. (didn't even noticed it, till i took the diff apart.) the lightweight topshaft isn't stronger. It is lighter, those gears are from aluminum (coated)

I ran the light weight top shaft. Took the teeth right off the gear. I have also broke the pin in both the gears on top shaft. I found a motor cycle spoke. Cut down to size and bent over so won't come out. Don't get in the gears either. Have not broke since then.

I also have the alum top shaft, is it strong enough for a 7XL?

I wouldn't put my money on it..

I thought I was up grading by putting all of this lightweight alum in, and now its bitting me in the @#%&$*

That is what i had. Was a 7xl with 18cells. It lasted a little while. I not sure if i have pic or not. It got stripped.

Hey Jcates. Are you running the steel idlers? I think the steel helps wear them out faster to. Worked good with the plastic stuff. Then again I had the stock motors to. Lack of power always helps things last.
