4 pole motors

are there any 4 pole motors besides the expensive neus, lehners, and plette's, i'm told my 18.97 is a good match for a 4 pole

starscream 01.03.2008 12:38 PM

I'm not aware of other 4 polers but Mega Motors makes great 6 pole motors.

Serum 01.03.2008 01:59 PM

I think that covered the largest pile of 4 polers.

it's not that the schulze is a good match for a 4pole, it's just that it's one of the few controllers that can handle them. it also depends on the type of 4 pole though. the schulze accepts pretty much any motor. (before it eventually lets out its famous blue cloud)

MGM too can:yes:

so I'm back where I started months ago. I should get a neu but they are almost $300 and the MMM combo will(supposedly) be about $300 with the same motor. I hope castle gets its stuff together, i need an MMM and a sidewinder....................

squeeforever 01.03.2008 03:14 PM

Actually the MMM will come with a Neu designed motor, but nowhere near the quality.

Oh, and Lehners are 2 polers.

Noone knows that yet.

squeeforever 01.03.2008 03:46 PM

For the price, its not even possible for it to have the same quality. Its gonna be made by Castle, so its kinda obvious. It was only designed by Steve Neu.

B15 01.03.2008 03:54 PM

Right, I think we can assume the quality wont be the same, but how much worse its going to be is still up in the air. For less than half the cost, if its quality 90% of the same Ill be happy.

You would be surprised what bulk-buy can do.

BP-Revo 01.03.2008 04:58 PM

But its not bulk buy, its just mass production of the design. If I recall correctly, I heard somewhere that the "Castle Neu's" were going to be machine wound, while actual Neu's are obviously hand wound. This will be the discerning factor for quality. I'm sure other than the winding, most other things will be very similar.

lincpimp 01.03.2008 05:37 PM

Forgive my ignorance, but why would machine winding be much worse than hand winding? Seems like most machine produced items are made as well or better than if done by hand, like milling and automotive welding. I am sure there is some reason, but not one that I can see.

BP-Revo 01.03.2008 06:02 PM

Apparently, machine winding is not as tight/precise as hand winding. This makes sense as because while a machine will just go around and around that pole to a set number of winds, hand winding can more precisely lay each wind down, and if there is a mistake (like a kink in the wire that throws off a certain wind), it can be redone.

This may be true for most regular conventional armature winds for brushed motors, and probably even outrunner motors.

But in the case of brushless inrunners, I believe these windings are "wound" or laid in a certain pattern, then compressed and baked inside a mold. When it cools, it retains it's shape so it will fit inside the motor can.
