Losi Aftershock conversion

I have had a brand new Aftershock (basically an lst with a FOC tranny) sitting around for a while and finally came up with a good brushless setup.

Going to run a KB 45 10xl motor (1200kv) with a CC Hv 85 esc on 9s lipo. I have 2 5000 20c packs, a 4s and 5s, to use. Going to leave the 2 speed and mech brakes on this one, and the stock gearing too.

I plan to make 2 battery trays, one where the stock gas tank goes, and another in front of the tranny, behind the steering servos. This will require an modified brake servo mount, but it looks like there is a chassis cutout that will work with some modification.

Anyway, just got the hv 85 and the TiN coated diff gears. I also bought a set of HB hardened diff internal gears. I do not know if they will work, but will give it a try and post the results.

Heres a few pics, more to come!

Cool, I just got an Aftershock for christmas from my wife, and it is my plan to convert it to brushless as well. I will try the nitro first though, since I never tried it, but I bet it will end up brushless within a year.

I have a LST2 converted to brushless...Hydra 120 and Feigao 8XL.

I've never had a problem with the ring, pinion, or diff bevel gears. I don't htink the Hot Bodies gears will work...they look different. Have you heard of someone who has used them?

No, but I figured that I would give it a try. I have a few other hb diffs so if they do not work I can use them as spares. Plus I am going to try the lst diff mod for my tmaxx, always good to have spares!

Hey guys, if you wnt to use HB internal diff gear, think to the Kyosho to the place. They fit the HB cup and are way stronger. All the guys runing HB LSP and brole theyr diffs had switch for th Kyosho and no more troubles.

Hey Linc, have you recieve your V1 diff:eyes:

FYI, Sportwerks and and I think also 8ight spider gears will work in the LST diffs. I believe the Sportwerks ones are hardened, I use them with no probs. Not sure if the 8ight ones are hardened.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind.

I love the lst and all it's cousins(aftershock, baja, raminator, lst2) My buddy runs lst's with serious nitro power, the only problem he has had with diffs is plastic cases, when he went to aluminum cases he hasn't had a problem. And I know the group concesus is no Integy parts, but the lst size integy shocks look so freakin cool. They took a lot of setup to prevent leaks, but since have been flawless for my friend. Thats my 2 cents, later!

Way to go, keep us posted. I love my E-Aftershock so much, I made two of them and I never play with my FM Maxx anymore. It's been a few months since I finished mine and the stock gears are just fine. I just bought a Muggy roller because of the quality of Losi's products. I'm running MM's and XLT's on both.

Here's my two:

Yep, I remember the thread on both of your conversions. I was going to use an emaxx tranny, but decided to leave the stock tranny and try out a forward only mech brake setup. I personally feel that leaving as much stock parts should help the reliability on 9s lipo thru a kb45xl. This will be my first hv setup with a kb45 and I think it will be a good basher. Plus there is not a hv car esc with brakes and reverse that I can afford, and I like the auto shifting 2 speed. My tekno revo is really fun to play with and I love the sound of the tranny shifting gears by itself. Plus it seems to keep the electronics cooler, as there is less load in 1st gear.

I"m using the stock tranny, and I like it a lot... plus the gears are alll metal as well... the KB45 1000KV runs nice on 12S lipos... and/or 14S A123... she gets a bit warm though at 45K+.. a fan or heatsink is sufficient..

The losi diffs do explode even in metal casings. The hardend ring and pinion should go OK. I wonder if you can fit Cen GST diffs in an LST. I'm putting a set in my savage. Supposedly in a savage they are fairly indestructible.

Hey lincpimp, any new updates on your conversion, you haven't mentioned anything in a while. Just curious how it's going?
