Possible Ext Crt.5 Setup

Ok, got a used crt.5 for a good deal (thanks starscream) and was wondering what to put in it. I have a random selection of equipment here and wanted to throw something together for it.

I have a hacker c50 15l (1624kv) a kontronik jazz 40/10/24, and a pair of 2100 3s 20c lipos. Figured that I could run the hacker on 6s lipo and gear for about 40mph.

My question is do you think that this setup will draw around 40 amps, or more? My basis for this is my LS10 that runs a hacker 13l thru a quark 65 and a 3000 mah 20c 5s lipo. The 3000 lipo says cool and has good runtimes with that truck, which is similar to the ext crt.5 in size and weight.

I do not think that the LS10 setup is pulling much more than 50 amps, cause the 3000 cells are not true 20c cells IMO. So figuring 50 amps at 18.5 would give me about 925 watts. The proposed crt.5 setup would have 40amps at 22.2v, so about 888. The crt.5 will be geared lower (by a few mph) and should be slightly lighter than the ls10. Battery weight is 370g on the ls10 and 330g on the crt.5. The lower kv motor should draw less, just not sure how much less.

I guess since I have all of the equipment that I should give it a try and see what happens!

Heres my proposed setup, via brian's speed calc.

Differential Ratio: 3.25
Transmission Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 46
Pinion Tooth Count: 15
Total Voltage: 22.2
Motor KV: 1624
Tire Diameter (inches): 3.8
Total Motor Speed: 36052.8 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 40.89 MPH

i thought 2.2 truck tires were about 4.2 inches tall......or are you not gonna run the truck tires and just keep the small buggy tires?

lincpimp 01.04.2008 12:49 AM

Actually the tire height was for the jato anaconda tires. I may use the victory tires for off road.

Or maybe some buggy wheels and tires.

Any idea if there is a way to put 17mm adapters on a crt.5?

Or a set of 10mm hex wheels that can handle 1/8 buggy tires.

No, 2.2 truck tires are 4in

Well just what I have laying around, hope it works!

I dont see why it wouldnt, batts may be hard to fit, but they should

Is it EXT as in the ofna cassis, or the RCM one?

RCM ext chassis!

I remember that a company has a 17mm hub conversion for the jato, maybe that would work?!

BlackedOutREVO 01.04.2008 01:05 AM

Nice!

Yeah that would work, because people are using jato rims, so I dont see why that wouldnt work

rootar 01.04.2008 01:34 AM

hmm the stock tires on my LS10 are way taller than 4inches they are around 4.5 i think ... hmmmm that means id be WAY undergeared if i got different race tires.

Lincpimp if you get the 17mm jato adapters try them on your LS10 and let me know if they work

I think you can use the Jazz 40 with the Hacker Motor on 6s Lipo without problems. If the Jazz controllers are properly cooled, they can take much more amps than Kontronik says. Here in Germany, some Helicopter guys are getting up to 2,9kw out of their Jazz 55-10-32 on 10s Lipo, thats 85amps
So if you put a fan or a small heatsink on it, your Jazz will take up to 1100watts on 6s Lipo without thermal problems, i don't think that the motor needs more in a such light car.

Thanks for the info, BL! It already has a small heatsink on one side so maybe I will give it a try. Just hope that the batteries can keep up!
