new to the brushless scene, need advice
i have a truggy with a feigao 8XL motor and a mamba max ESC...right now im running one 4200 sub C Nimh batterys ..i get about 5-10 minutes runtime an its not as fast as my old nitro truck...if i bought a y harness and ran 2(two) 4200 packs would i get more power ? or if i ran the wires different like series or parrell...also i dont want to hurt the ESC...i see it says 6-12 cells but it dosnt say how much volts it can handle...i disabled the BEC and i run a receiver pack
|
If your y-harness connects the batteries in series it will double the voltage. Two 6 cell packs in series will give you 14.4 volts and 4200mahs. If it connects them in parallel it will double the amperage. Two 6 cell packs connected in parallel will be 7.2 volts and 8400mahs. The speed control is referring to cells run in series so if it says it can do 12 cells safely that means it can do 14.4 volts, so you should be ok.

here is how i have them if i run 2 batterys
i have 2 batterys that each connect into the Y..how do i know if its series or parrel ? |

here it is

Both red wires connect to each other correct? If so you have a parallel connector. This would give you 7.2v and 8400mah. You should run a series connector, like this:series adapter it will give you 14.4v at 4200mah and get the truggy going fast!
|
Not sure what you have there, but it looks like you have the packs wired in parellel.
http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_wiring_bec.html go here and choose the "2 series" wiring option. it will show you how the 2 packs should be wired to get the series connetion you are looking for. This page should show you how to wire any way you want it. |
Thanks alot, i was looking at my Y adapter and it is solderd with the red connecting each other, so im going to re do it and make it where the postives connect .... will it harm the mamba max ? run times decrease ? how much more power will she get ?..im getting exicited now

is this how i should do it ?
|
Yes, that is a series connection.
|
right on... thats the way.
|
30 more minutes till; my batterys are charged...i hope its alot faster because right now its equivlant to a 18-20 turn on a stadium truck
|
theoretically you should double the speed if you double the voltage. You will for sure notice a difference. :mdr:
|
One note!!! With the mamba maxx on 12 cells you should disconnect the red wire on the ESC plug to the Rx and use a receiver battery or UBEC. 12 cells on the mamba maxx will likely overheat the built in bec. I would do this before running it.

holy craappp...this thing is insane ...couple more questions...
#1-should i get a endbell clamp for ym feigao or i may just make one ?.. #2- whats a high temp for my ESC ? my mamba max hit 85 degrees after 5 minutes of running #3-when my battery goes dead, does it just keep driving or will it cut off because the low volt thing ive heard people talk about ? |
if the temps you posted are in C then that is on the hot side. You might consider gearing down a couple teeth on the pinion.
If the temps posted are Fahrenheit then you have no problem. What ESC, motor and batteries are you running? Also what vehicle and what pinion/spur gearing are you using. You haven given much info so far. |
