My E-savage
Hello,
My name it's Enric, I'm from Barcelona (Spain) I think I have make the only E-Savage here in spain. Some month ago I start to read that forum, and I find it very interesting. My E-Savage has a BKWanderer 8L ( in fact a German Feigao) and a 9920 ESC, in 12 cells. You can see here some pictures. The lock of the savage gear box. http://fotos.miarroba.com/fotos/6/8/688860a7.jpg The ESC and the 8L with the connectors. http://fotos.miarroba.com/fotos/e/0/e01078ef.jpg My custom motor holder. http://fotos.miarroba.com/fotos/7/a/7a7ff8b0.jpg My custom battery holder. http://fotos.miarroba.com/fotos/f/1/f16e5852.jpg Battery holder at chasis. http://fotos.miarroba.com/fotos/7/e/7e57e907.jpg Every thing done. http://fotos.miarroba.com/fotos/b/8/b8f570c7.jpg And one more. http://fotos.miarroba.com/fotos/a/0/a05b4ce7.jpg And with the body. http://fotos.miarroba.com/fotos/7/0/704cf2c8.jpg Don't see in pictures but now I recently I putted a big 12V fan for ESC and Motor an 2S Lipos. I'm happy with the performance of the truck now with Lipos (in fact last weekend I went for a race against nitro and I obtain the 5th place of 28 trucks), but I'm not happy with the ESC, (lots of incidence with the BEC and in fact the BEC part of the ESC that actually don't use it's a little bit burned). Now I'm going to make another E-Savage for a friend and I accept suggestions about a bulletproof ESC, motor. Which one will be the best option for that truck, in 12 cells? Regards, Enric |
The MGM 120A is known to be a good esc but it can only handle 12 cells. You might want to use a Feigao 9L or a Lehner 2800xl. The 8L just seems a little hot for a MT.

with 12 cells, the 9L truely is the best motor. or even a 7XL, which gives a huge amount of power..
I simple love the BL savages.. ;) (got one too) el jarretto hit the bull, that the 8L is a bit hot for the savage, though you might consider using the 2 speed transmission with that motor. What gearing are you using? With the 2 speed transmission you need a mechanical brake, which helps to keep the controller cooler as well.. my personal choice would be a 7XL with the 9920.. (you can even use it on 18 cells with the proper gearing (and the help of an external receiver pack/Ubec) |
What do you mean about hot motor? Too much Amp?
If i put 9L maybe I need more cells, to obatin the same performance? But my first preocupation it's the ESC, my 9920 yesterday afternoon die. Some week ago starts to melted the plastic in BEC zone and I disconected and put an external receiver pack. But hte plastic day by day contoinue to be melted and yesterday die, i check temperature and read 45ºC. I'm not happy with it and now starts to find a bulletproff ESC. Wich one recomended me? and where I can buy that ESC? regards, Enric |
that 9920 is a good esc!
If you want something bigger, go for the soon to be in stock warrior 12020 or the more expensive 36120 I mean that the motor draws too much amp for such a heavy truck. You can actually buy the controllers from Mike (he owns this forum/store) he can ship straight from Germany to France. |
Ok,
But talking about 20120 or 30120 they are in the same cost of a schulze. Do you prefer a Schulze? I see in the MonsterRc shop the Lehner motors at not bad price, but don't see nothing about the number of turns of the motor. Wich one do you recomended me to a setup of 3-5SLipos(usualy 4s in 2 x 2s packs in serie) in one E-savage? Or you think that don't worth the diference with the feigaos? Regards Enric |
i can give you eleven reasons why not to buy schulze..
Those smoked controllers would be fine if their service wasn't as bad as it is. the lehners are rated with their Kv value, the bigger/highend lehners are rated with the number of turns |

A member of a french forum (here) has the same problem, except he run with a bigmaxximum on his savage... Does the schulze esc are great ? :W: I don't know |
Hi,
Sorry by my fault of RC knowledge bur I don't understand well.... You say my 8L it's too hot and I read another post and you talk about 7xl + 9920 like a very good combination and cool. If it has less turns will draw more amp or not? Enric |
the thing is, the 7xl has a lower kv rating which means that per volt it will spin less times. the 8l spins 3072 rpms per volt; which if you do the math on 12 cells that would be 44236 rpms. now with the 7xl it would spin 2382 rpms per volt; which on 12 cells would be 34300 rpms. plus the 7xl will have loads more torque which is needed in a large monster truck. the lehners are great motors and i prefer them over a feigao. if your running on 12 cells i would recommend a 2800xl or 3100xl. the lehners are gonna be a little more efficient and have more torque so you will be able to run a motor with a higher kv rating over the feigao. hope this helps

that one allready was on my wall of shame.. ;)

I would recommend new batteries too. Stick packs use small strips of tin to connect the cells while SxS packs use thick plates of copper that are usually coated in silver, platinum, ect. The Maxamps Ebay store (http://stores.ebay.com/Austin-Else_W...toreviewQQtZkm ) is very cheap and doesn't differ from the actual Maxamps site very much.

Everyone should be smart enough to shop around, and you can send links to other sites via PM or email, but it's a little disrespectful to post links to other retailers on this forum.
This is, after all, Mike's house - which he has invited us into as guests and to share information. We should respect what we've got here. :) Before anyone purchases elsewhere, if you're happy with service and products you've gotten from Mike here at RC-Monster.com, make sure you ask Mike if he can get the parts you need. He's very competitive with prices on just about any item he can get, and just about everyone here will testify to his outstanding service. There I go on the soapbox again. I just feel strongly on this point, so I want to mention it wherever I feel it's relevent. |
You could always resolder into side by side, new packs aren't always needed.

Sorry but the pictures are old.
From 1 month ago I have 2sLipo packs, they are great. I won to shop in Mike's shop, but no one clarify to me what motor buy to my friend's E-Savage. 7XL, 9L......? Some one says 9920 ESC are good, but I just fried mine, but I try to give to BK another oportunity and maybe buy 2 more 9920. regards, Enric |
