Another CRT.5 ESC/Motor question...

I currently have a CRT.5 that is set up as follows:
ESC: Novak GTB
Motor: Novak Velociti 6.5 (5900kv)
Batts: Lipo 4800 2S
Spur/Pinion: 46/12 or 13
Tires: 2.2 Truck (about 3.8” dia.)

It runs really well on my local indoor track and is pretty fast down the back straight. At this time I’m ready to get a dedicated system and batts for this car. I’d like to maintain my estimated top speed of 35 - 40mph, but gain some punch for jumps out of tight corners.

I’m going to buy the maxamps batteries that fit this chassis (100mm L x 34mm W). I’m deciding between these two options:
1. Stay with the GTB/6.5 and get the maxamps 4200 2S batts. This will be the same performance accept for the car being a bit lighter.
2. Purchase a Mamba Max ESC, Feigao L motor, and Maxamps 3100 3S batts.

If I decided on the MM / Feigao L / 3S combo which motor would best suit the CRT.5, and would it have considerable more punch than the Novak 6.5?

Thanks for the help.

I'd guess an 8 or 9L would do the trick. Can't speak to performance as I've never ran either.

Briang"s motor calculator should tell you good motor possibilities.http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/

MM and a fiegao is a popular way to go I've noticed.

I've been loving my MM / Ammo 36-50-2300 / 3S combo, but I run a small track so I wanted to be able to gear from 25-45mph. You would propably want a few more motor rpm's so I'd go more in the 3300-3900KV range. But defer to brians calculator and the guy's who run CRT.5's...

I went with the 3600kv range on my crt.5 so that I could run 2s or 3s depending on conditions and objectives...

I have run the 10L/4s combo and am now running the mega ACn motor(4580kv) on 2s. The 10L/4s was overly powerful for the track I'm going to run at. Also I shaved about 13.6oz off the weight on my crt.5ext bu switching setups. It handles soooooo much better now with the mega/2s setup. The mega a 6pole so the torque is there with decent speed.

Bye:mdr:

i run a 3s,9l,mm combo 15/46

powerful and fast, temps have been great, i have yet to run it with 2.2 truck tires, just the stockers, so with the bigger tires ill gear around 13/46

I've been working with Brian's calculator and from what I've read the optimum max rpm for a Feigao L is about 35,000. So it looks like an 8L on 3S would be the best solution. However, I'm still unsure if this will give me more punch than my current 6.5 (5900kv) on 2S? I just don't have any experience with the 3S systems.

That's a pretty good idea. However, I am going to buy specific batts for this car, so 2S or 3S is up for grabs. It really comes down to what would work best.

If I went 2S and a 7L would that give more punch than my 2S Novak 6.5 and still run cool like the 6.5?

That Mega motor sounds nice and seems available on RCM. Was it mostly battery weight your saved or ar the Feigao L can motors a lot heavier?

I've been running an 8L on 3S on mine for a while. I just re-did my conversion and went up from the buggy tires to 30 series. I haven't had a chance to really try it out yet. With the buggy tires though it ran very well (and cool) for my small track.

I went from a 278g motor to a 106g motor and from a 420g lipo to a 185g lipo. I also reconfigured the battery mounting and some other stuff which was probably good for an ounce. I might lose the ubec too, since I'm only running 2s IDK...
With the feigao it felt like I was driving a tank, lots of upfront brute power. The mega is smoother in the power delivery and feels like a sports car. I only have it geared for 30mph too, while my 10L/4s topped out at 41mph....

Wow, I didn't know the Feigao L cans were so much heavier than a stock 540 motor. I want some more punch for trying clearing the triple, but I don't want my crt.5 to get heavier and ruin the handling. I guess I need to do some more testing on the GTB/6.5 before switching to 3S.

I'm running a 7L and 2s6000, geared 14/46.

so far so good, but I've only got about a pack through it.
