Cheap savage Electronics?
Now that I can buy a chassis for my brushless savage project I am at a loss as to what motor and esc and battery to run. Is there any esc out there that will handle 5s in a savage that doesn't cost $275. Also what's the max number of NiMH cells a MM can handle with the BEC disabled?
I'm so confused now. I want my brushless savage running I think a bit too much. I probably should wait save up a bit more spending money and just get an MGM. Then I can run any motor and battery combo I would want. Stupid MMM not being out. Would make my decision easy. Edit 3: Thinking about running 10s1p A123, TURNIGY Sentilon100A HV 2-12S Speed Controller and a high turn Feigao. Not sure which as I'm not sure which would be best. I'm thinking 14 of 15xl but don't know where to get one. The KB45-11XL looks about the right spec but it has a 6mm shaft. Another possibility I suppose is a 4s2p with a mamba max on a lower turn feigao. The A123 cells would be better for the beating I am going to give this truck but they are very low mah. Once the MMM came out I could then use the MM in something smaller. |
OK I'm really thinking the 4s2p A123 with mamba max with a 7xl would be the way to go until the MMM comes out (in another year or 2). It would be running the 2 speed, mechanical brake with max size tires and only geared for 30mph or less. Would the mamba max be able to cope with this or am I dreaming. I like the idea of using the MM as I can reuse it in something else later.
Also can I charge A123 cells with an e-STATION BC6. It has a LiFe 3.3v cc/cv profile. Is that what I need? |
For only 30mph, I think 4s2p A123 would work well, but I'd go with an 8XL instead of a 7XL. A123 is LiFePO4 and 3.3v nominal, so the BC6 will work just fine.

A mm 8xl combo will be fine especially with the 2 speed and mech brakes. I am sure that you could gear for around 35mph and be fine. Maybe have to put a fan on the mm, or have griffinru mod it for you. His mods really work to keep the esc cool and smooth out the motor too.

Any idea how much a grif basic MM mod costs? I was thinking about this already but I thought if I was going to do it I would buy it and ship it straight to him to be modified and then have him ship it across the pacific.
That's good to hear on the charger and motor too. I'm liking the idea of the A123s as when I want to upgrade to a more powerful system I can just hack apart the pack and rewire it. Thanks guys for the advice. I appreciate it. |
I would just go for a 6S setup and a KB45 8XL and use a airplane controller. Theres a couple available at United Hobbies for around $100.

Don't the KB45 use a 6mm shaft. Where can you get pinions for those? This is the KB45 isn't it? https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITED...idProduct=4937

bore out a 5mm one.

Just file down the shaft. Another member said he just hooked it up and had it at a low RPM and took a file to it. Said it took a while, but worked. Or, if you drill out, or have all your pinions made with a 6mm bore, just get a bore reducer from Mike. He'll hook you up.
