Here's an idea, a Brushless HPI Baja SS!
Evening folks.
I have just spent a couple of hours working on building my HPI BajaSS kit together, and I am at the stage where I am ready to start bolting the engine in. In light of my brushless CRT.5 conversion I have also started, it got me thinking (You can guess what is coming next right?!). Has anyone tried building an electric Baja? It would solve a lot of my problems, in that it would open up a LOT more sites for bashing (many ideal sites are limited due to noise issues). It would also be a very impressive demonstration of my liking of all things electric! I'm going to crunch some numbers at work tomorrow, to see what sort of motor would be required/fit with the minimum number of modifications, and the sort of power requirements such a conversion would dictate. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them! Cheers Andy |
finedesignrc.com does one with an 8hp 3040 lehner motor on 10s(37 volts!)

what about a big outrunner as RPM of the gas engines are quite low. something that gets half the baja weight acrobatic plane moving
|
I've seen somehwere a guy in Germany had a bid outrunner in his 1/5 scale car. He was using the Schulze 40.160 and I think 10S lipos. Plettenberg made the Bolido specially for 1/5 scale and the motor's shaft is made to fit the 1/5 scale pinion gears. I was thinking of doing one of those 1/5 scale 4WD cars, but the company in Asia that makes a copy of the MCD still didn't say if they will send me the kit.

I would go with the Bolido personally...

check out this stuff
https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITED...idProduct=5139 https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITED...idProduct=4691 2 of these https://www.unitedhobbies.com/UNITED...idProduct=4289 thatll get ya movin. |
I'm not sure about that ESC and those batteries. That motor looks like it can do the job though....7000w! The Bolido is rated at 5000w.
Personally I'd go with a CC Pheonix HV110 for ESC duties and power it with FlightPower 4500mah 30C packs... If you do decide to do a Lehner 30 series, I'd go with a 3060 rather than a 3040...just because lol... |
ya those seem really crappy bl_rvo. then again thats why they are so cheap.
|
well to get ya started..... yno...

First decision to be made is motor brakes or mechanical brakes, then you can narrow down your avalable controlers, then decide what batterys you are going to use (I think this is the most important decision) then based on battery selection you can further narrow your controler options, then you are left with a motor choice. I would choose between the big Neu, Lehner 30 series, and possibly the Bolido. I would use no less than 10s lipo.

just saw this i had asked in question eariler about my baja... will the electric setup match my 6-7hp 29.5 fully ported reed modified motor? Seems the batteries might cost a fortune...
|
Initial investment is high, but it does pay off in the long term. A good motor like the Lehner 30 series or Plettenberg Bolido will make what ever modified gas engine look weak. Keep in mind electric motor is more efficient then a gas motor. Electric motor have instant power, makes more torque and some can spin up to 50000rpm. Run 2 6S packs ranging from 4500mAh to 5000mAh+ in capacity and your BL Baja will be really fast.

wow the big neu's are 995 ouch...
|
The 2215 seems good and Neu might drop the prices after they decided not to have a distributor.
