CC Sidewinder size?
 

Anyone know what the size of the sidewinder is? I am thinking about replacing the Mamba25 esc in my RC18 with one of these. The Mamba 25 tends to get to hot on me most of the time and I'm thinking that the Sidewinder will probably be overkill, but its the same price as the mamba 25 and I figure I can sell the m25 for $50 or so on feebay.

Just trying to figure out how tight of a fit its gonna be. Is it the same footprint size as the MM only shorter in height?

The Quark 33 is a good alternative to the little mamba.

Yea, but the sidewinder costs less and it can handle more. I had a Q33 and liked it allot. It was sold in one of my minis some time ago, and I do agree that it does handle more than the Mamba25.

I really think that the sidewinder could kill some of the "mini" esc sales for other companies as well. I seriously can't believe its only gonna be $76 for the esc.

+1 on the quark 33. Much better than the mamba 25 and it is nt much bigger. They go for about 85 bucks, which is the only bad part.

Johnrobholmes has a sidewinder, maybe shoot him a pm and he can measure it for you? It may be a bit heavy for a rc18t, but who knows?

Yea, It sure would be a beast on 6s. I'm just lookign for something that will keep running my cheapo L can 4600kv motor without overheating is all. The motor can take it, but the esc cant. I really cant imagine any mini needing 6s, much less the drivtrian being able to handle it. The drivetrain cant even take what I have in it now. I'm satisfied with the powert and speed of the 3s I have, I just need the ESC to be a little more tolerant.

Sounds like the sidewinder might be to big. I might just try and work out the layout with my MM and if that fits I'm sure the sidewinder will fit. The thing I like about the sidewinder is the solder postes rather than wires direct to the board. It means I can more easily run wires the correct length I need rather than having extra wire spooled alll over the place. That will save a litlle space hunder the hood. Everything counts on the minis.

I'll third the quark 33. I've had one for nearly 2 years now and it's the only ESC I own that's never given me the slightest hint of a problem.

My understanding is that the sidewinder is just a bit smaller than the MM. If you ditch the plastic casing and shrink wrap it, I'm sure you could fit it in somewhere.

Yep, solder posts are gone. Castle kept with the wires because they kept bending the posts and it was causing fitment issues.

The sidewinder would be great, but a bit big. Maybe fit it on its side? The Quark 33 would be very smooth and small. The lightning 38 ESC is pretty good too, and tiny. The L38 has great programming for crawling too. All good choices IMO, just depends on what you want. The nice part about the sidewinder is that it could make your stampede go 40mph, or your mini go a billion MPH. The sidewinder has about 1hp continuous.

Hey jrh, do you think the sidewinder will be capable of 4s? And is the software capable of supporting a neu/novak motor, to your knowledge? I only ask as it sounds like a great controller to pair up with a high quality motor for 10th scale vehicles, maybe even 4wd like the crt.5. I have a bunch of mamba max escs, but since they are not too good with the neu/aveox/novak motors, I have resorted to the quark 65 as my do-all small esc. Sounds like castle has a winner here, do they plan to keep the mamba max esc or will the sidewinder replace it? And since you have some good contacts, can we expect any sort of upgraded programming for the mamba? The rumored "neu fix" as some call it.

The sidewinder does work on 4s, but of course it has to be a slower wind motor. The mamba max fix should be out in the same update that allows the sidewinder to be updated via Castlelink. Right now the CAstle link proggy doesn't recognize the sidewinder. I can say that the Sidewinder is better with slotted outrunners on startup, but I can't guess how it will act with a nue. I can't get my nuemotors to fit into any vehicles that the sidewinder can power. I guess I could plug up the novak to it and see how it does, but all I have is a novak Goat motor.

They will certainly keep the MM around, although it might get upgrades in the future.

Haha, was going to put my address but realized that we do not have anyone that stupid on this forum! Nice of you to send him a motor to test novak2. How about the hv 6.5 or 4.5? The 6.5 always looked like a really good motor to run in a 10th scale nitro conversion, like a crt.5 or ls10 (mabye a mt2?). Would make a great, effecient motor on 3s, and maybe on 4s too. I am sure that the novak motors can handle 40k+ rpm without heating up or wasting alot of power.

Whatever motors you guys would like to see tested would work with me. I keep my nose in outrunners more than anything else. I could select if I knew kv.
