Aquacraft SV27 Brushless Motor
Just bought one of these motors for testing purposes. From what I can find it appears to be a 6 pole motor with kv somewhere around 1800. Tower spec it at 18v max input. It has a 5mm shaft, both 25mm and 18mm bolt pattern. It is 36mm in diameter and 56mm long, about the same size as a l can feigao.
Was thinking about trying this motor in my ls10 on 5s lipo. It is a 6 pole motor, so my quark esc would most likely be the best bet. Any idea if a mm would run this motor well? How about a bk 9920? I have a plett maxximum, which is 4 poles, and a mm works it fine, with the start power all the way up. Any info would be appreciated. I know that Lutach tested this motor, so Maybe I will hear from him! |
No love for the Pimp?

Until the firmware release the quark will be the better bet. I hear as early as monday for the new MM firmware. It starts up higher pole count very smoothly.

How will the firmware be upgraded? Thru castlelink? |
It's not a matter of love.
It depends wheter that motor uses a slotted design or not; if you have it; try to turn the shaft. I wouldn't be surprised if it ran on you MM, but the slotted part might throw you off. The problem is that the startup energy needed to get a slotted motor moving is larger, and i expect the EMF to be slightly different too. So try to turn the shaft by hand; if you feel the magnet giving resistance, i don't give you much change on the MM, but once the new software is released it should handle it well. so; it depends on the design of the motor. The Quark handles anything you throw at it. |
I can't turn the shaft by hand, had to use pliers. It has some serious magnet power! I will try it with the quark 125b and 5s lipo in a new emaxx. Not sure if it will move the truck and stay cool, but it can push a 27" boat to 40mph on 4s lipo with no issues.

Yeah, no way the MM would get that motor started up then.
The MM will be updated via the Castle link. The sidewinder gets an update too, along with the m25 I hear. |

Good to hear about the update, thanks for the info JRH. |
Ok, have done some testing with a variety of setups.
First thing, the sx27 is slightly longer than a feigao 540 s can. The rcm heatsink/clamps for the s length motors fits fine. The sv27 motor has pinned on end caps, but they are not on that well, so the clamp is a good idea. The motor does not lik 5s, no matter how low the gearing is, it just heats up too much. 4s is much better. My most successful setup is in the LS10 on 4s lipo with a quark 65 esc. Plenty of power, using 3600 12c 4s lipo (poly rc). This is the same lipo that I use in my supervee boat. Ls10 setup with 14/54 gearing runs about 30-32mph with the sv motor on 4s lipo. Not really all that fast, but it has tons of torque. Motor and esc did not go over 140 deg f and battery stayed at 100deg f. I will gear it up to a 16t, which should be good for 35mph or so. We will see how it holds up. This motor definately likes the water cooling of the boat, it is never hot even after a 15min full throttle run. I guess it is not very effecient, but has way more torque than a feigao. Not sure what it would be best to use in, maybe a lightweight 4wd truck like a crt.5? |
