TO MAKE A STORY SHORT....GOT MY TRUE-RC 5S 8000MAH PACK YESTERDAY...RAN MY NEU-EVO FOR 10MIN...HEARD GRINDING SOUND...SAW AN ARRAY OF ORANGE SPARKS...STOMACH DROPPED...TOOK BODY OFF...THIS IS WHAT I FOUND...CHECK OUT THE ATTACHMENTS....HOLY NEU!!! :gasp: THE DRIVE TRAIN WAS FINE...THE MOTOR WAS FINE (THANK GOD :oh: ) BUT THE STEEL MOD-1 ROBINSON RACING SPUR GEAR AND THE MOD-1 16T RC-MONSTER PINION HAD THE TOPS OF THE GEAR TEETH JAGGED/DEFORMED/AND STRIPPED......I GUESS THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE GEAR MESH IS TOO TIGHT...:whistle: THE 80A DISCHARGE RATE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH :intello:

stick with plastic spurs, that's my advice..

Plastic is the way to go. Mod 1 is more than enough to handle the power as well.

Two questions:

1: Is that pinion a hardened Mod1 pinion? If not, that's a problem. Mike's hardened pinions are hardened but also have a different tooth geometry to work much better with a steel spur. But, that does look like a hardened pinion, but the pics are a little unclear.

2: On the spur, I see a spot where the tops of the teeth were sheared off. Since it's on one spot, that tells me that the mesh isn't consistent. Possible causes are loose motor mount/motor, or you are getting flexing on the chassis and/or the motor mount.

I've been running steel on steel for a while now and wear is excellent. But proper and consistent mesh is vital for gear longevity.

yeah....its the hardened ones...and the wear goes all the way around the whole spur....aw well...i switched the spur to a delrin one and had a couple more mod 1 pinions laying around and now run it meshed correctly with a 36t mod1 spur and a 19t mod1 pinion.....:intello: its fast!!!!!!!!!!!

That's quite a diagnosis...ever consider a job in the intel field? Imagery analyst all the way :lol:

lol. Never considered it, although until I googled it, I had no idea what it was.

Basically you analyze images....seems like it would be kind of fun...

I like my current job better. Probably doesn't pay quite as well as the analyst thingy though...
