Help with motor choice

Since ordering the FLM savage BL conversion I've been trying to figure out what motor to buy.
I had already bought one of the 1800 Great Plains Ammo motors from Tower for $35 and now after more reading find out it might not be enough power to push the heavier savage around...

Here's what I know for sure.

Planning to use the Mamba Max with UBEC from Castle.

Want the longest run times possible with the most torque for wheelie's on command.

Also I have the FMA CellPro charger which will only accept or charge up to a 4S pack.

ANd most importanly I don't want to take out a loan for a motor.

Have been looking at the 8XL through 10XL Fieago motors here:

Or is there other motors I should be looking at?

Thanks

For 4s lipo, use a 8xl or 9xl. I would use a 8xl motor, gives you decent motor rpm on 4s lipo. This is going to be the best cost/performace ratio you will find.

Thanks lincpimp.

What's about the expected runtime using say a 4s 5000 with the 8XL?

Depends on gearing. If you gear for high 30mph range I would say 25 minutes. Maybe slightly less.

Also I would get the RC monster heat sink, It serves 2 purposes.
1. Keeps the motor cooler
2. prevent the end cap from 'popping' off

Sorry, I don't know what the run time will be on 5000Mah, but surf through this and you can get an idea of someone with a close setup:

Runtime depends heavily on so many factors, it's hard to say.

4s 5000mAh on 8XL in a heavy Savage? I would say about 15-20 tops. That would equate to around 15A average current draw, which should be about right. But then again, it depends on drivestyle, terrain, etc.

So 5000mah wouldn't be enough?

I was looking at cheapbatterypacks.com for the elite 4s packs. Or should I look elsewhere for a higher mah pack for about the same price or better??

or 25c burst.

Elite 4800mah 4S $129

No, I think 5000Mah is a good size to run in the savage.

This is running 5 cell Apogee 5800Mah. So I htink 500Mah is pretty good.

If you want longer run times, the best thing to do it get a lighter truck, like revo, or go even lighter bugggy.

Also check out this site for Lipo's

The one in that link is running 5s with a Neu 1515 2.5d (1700kv) motor. So, runtime will be a bit better and current will be lower than an 8XL (2084kv) running on 4s, if geared similarly.

4800mAh 25c burst is 120A, but I would look more at the continuous C rating personally. The term "burst" is sometimes loosely used and doesn't tell you how long each burst should last, nor how long the battery should rest somewhat between bursts. It's better for any lipo pack if you don't push it to its limits.

Well I may have just found the ultimate pack for this savage after doing some more searching.

Came across TrueRC!

Bet this pack would give me some very good runtime....with the 8Xl whoohooo!!!

14.8V 4S2P 8000mAh

BrianG 01.22.2008 04:06 PM

Yes, that is a better choice IMO.
