Mamba and LRP motors
I was at the lhs yesterday and he sent me home with an LRP 13.5 motor. I hadn't looked into these motors before and I picked up a B44 to build for next weeks race. The bloody package writing is so tiny my old eyes couldn't read (they were giving me a hard time holding the thing 2 feet away trying to read it.... they have a mini z track and I told them that's why even 1/10 I find small... I don't do mini z)
well I built most of the kit last night and when I opened the motor to have a look, I found it was a sensored motor. I asked a local mamba guru about using the combo and he said something about the higher turn motors like this one might not work very well with the mm. has anybody here had any luck? I was thinking I might just return it and wait for the mambas to come in stock. |
If its the mamba max, you should have no problems running it with the latest 1.17 firmware. The 13.5 is only 3350KV. My mamba has no issues running my LRP 4.5 7800kv motor now.

Yeah, both Mamba systems (regular and Max) come with motor options well above 3350kv, so it's not a kv issue.

I just sold my gtb system too. I didn't like the cel limitations though the 5.5 velocity was screaming fast. I am a castle fan, but impatience to build and get it running.... I was just worried I would get cogging issues or something. Steve, local guy, said he had read the mm worked fine with the lower kv sensored motors but some had trouble with the higher ones like this one.... that was before the new firmware this week too, and it has made a difference with the neu's for sure...
I hate to test and be a guinnea pig and not be able to return the motor. another buddy has an unkown kv lrp motor he is giving to me tomorrow to test with so I'll see if I can figure out what the motor is and run some tests on it before I mount the new one. thanks for the replies. I can't wait to run my flashlights on a track now. |
@snellemin
I don't suppose you have a video of the mamba running the LRP x11 with the new software do you? |
Are LRP motors slotted stator design like Nue and Novak motors? The old MM firmware had issues with that and it took gearing down quite a bit to alleviate it. Since the new firmware fixes compatibility with Neu motors, it should take care of any similarly constructed motor.
Since the MM comes with a 7700 kv motor, I still don't think it's purely a kv issue... |
I got an email from Castle about it, and though no reports around this particular motor, the new firmware is supposed to have cleared the issue with other brands and the same kv motors. I decided to just return the motor. I ordered a Sidewinder for my buggy so I can use my mm in the 8th scale. it's almost finished.
