how to tune your shocks

hey guys my xt8 shocks feel petty weak and I think they are set up wrong
the shocks sit very low as if there is either too low wt of oil or too much wt of oil
I think they are set very heavy right now so is that why they don't rebound?
I have 2 of those big clips on each shock and I remember when I first got the shocks they seemed real nice
once I changed the oil and put all the electronics it sorta lost its nice rebound or w/e its called
what can I do to get the truck to have a nice shock setup?
thanks!

i know the springs that come with the kit are too soft for my XT8 - and i didn't even have the motor, esc and batteries mounted to it yet! when i put all the electronics on it to see how the shocks held up, the truck almost bottomed out just sitting there. i ended up getting the hard springs (it says they're for the XB8, but they're also for the XT8).

i don't have my XT8 back yet to see how they work, but i know they're heavier (more stiff). i hate using preload spacers - they take travel away! of course, i'll also have to increase the oil weight.

not to take away from the forum here at all, but I ran Xray for quite a while and the Xray forum has a link up top for setup sheets and such for drivers. you can also input your own setups and save them on the site.... look at what the big guns are running. they race more than most people and have tried and tested pretty well every part available and most combos. it's always a good starting point. the kit suggestions, for buggies anyway, have euro based setups and don't work very well in the North American tracks.

the Xray line is about the most adjustable rc you can own and if you are new to setups, you can get lost chasing that setup, hell been there done that. you can search the setups by area and check what guys have been using at tracks you currently run at, or any you know the conditions are close to what you will run, and compare a few setups. you'll find these guys have all pretty close.use one of those to start and you'll enjoy the truggy even more. Xray gear is great.
