Losi 8ight brushless
 

I just put a 8XL in my losi 8ight I will be running a 4s lipo and for right now I have a Mamba max esc running it. I will later get a quark monster esc but it may be a while, but I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea what pinion gear to run for the best performance. I want speed but I don't want to over heat the motor or esc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had the exact same setup in my 8ight until I went to a Neu motor. The 8xl worked great on 4s with a 14t pinion. My un-modded MM without fan was quite warm but not hot after 20 minutes of flat out bashing on a soccer field. The motor was mildly warm.
For track, I think 4s and 12t would be ideal. For high speed I've run up to 18t with good results but more heat (still not excessive).

I've only got a few minutes running on the Neu so far. Stays very cool, feels smoother. It is a slightly lower kv motor so I'm watching for my 5s pack to arrive, then we'll see what it can really do.
