neu motor and 18.97 speed control

i had a fine design junk motor 7xl with sultz 18.97 the motor went bad 3 times. each time all of a sudden it would just cog fully and not even move the buggy even in the air. each time a new motor fixed the problem.
this time I got a neu motor ( 4 pole?) from mike.
i still have the same problem as the old ( i thought was bad) 7xl. SO either the speed control took a dump or the 18.97 doesn't work or needs certain setting for the neu motor????

whats your DIL switch setting?

The Neu motors work fine with the 18.97, is this occuring with a hot controller? you are familiar that this controller has a thermal shutdown build in?

auto2 02.02.2008 02:07 PM

with motor wires facing down to the ground
1 is up
2 is down
3 is up
4 is down
5 is up
6 is down

i used these settings on my bigmaxx; It's a wye wind motor;

1 on
2 off
3 on
4 off
5 off
6 on

And you DO know about its thermal shutdown?

auto2 02.02.2008 02:36 PM

we are cold. not even run. when the 7xl stopped working it was room temp motor and ESC.
i'll switch 5 and 6 like yours and see what happens but I am suspicious my esc my be junk......:-(

no difference. the pinion just vibrates never make one revolution. same as the 7XL motor did.

Serum 02.03.2008 04:40 AM

theck the wiring, perhaps there is a plug loose on the controller.

auto2 02.03.2008 08:16 PM

nothing loose to the eye or fingers. plugs feel tight. I ordered a mm from mike
It is in an xb8 anyone want to buy this 18.97???? :-)

If the controller overheats, I think there is a thing you have to do to reset it. I believe is holding the brakes and turn on the controller.

"Temperature monitor:
The temperature monitor switches off the motor. You can reset the unit using the "autoarm" function (throttle stick to stop for about 2 sec.) If the motor windings are shortcircuited the temperature monitor reacts too slowly to prevent damage. Switch the motor off immediately to avoid permanent damage to the speed controller."

That happened to my 32.40 and I did the autoarm function and it is working good now.

good info and I tried it but it didnt help.
either i have a solder joint that feels solid but went bad or the esc is NG
will wait for the MM in the mail and see if that solves the problem. then have to get the 18.97 fixed ?

hi
you argue kind a strange.

the new motors fixed the problem each time. and now you hope that a new esc will fix the problem?

it seems you are dealing with several different or new problems here.

i put a new motor in it. and it does the same thing. you make it sound like i went straight for the esc and didnt try a motor first. the whole point here is i assumed the motor was bad-changed it- and still have the problem.
getting a mm any day now and we will see if that fixes it. possible all these bad motors from fine design damaged the esc.

so now I have a neu and a MM

auto2 02.08.2008 12:20 AM

update installed new momba max and it worked instantlly. so 18.97 was ng
next how do I adj MM for my neu motor?
i am using a bec set for 6 volts. does the mm have an internal one? how do I disable it? or do i want to? seems the on off switch is always on

jzemaxx 03.07.2008 02:30 PM

Was the 18.97 bad then?? If so do you want to sell it?? I need one to pull apart and disect.
