My CRT conversion!

Avast, ye scoundrels!
Oh wait, I'm not a pirate.. DO-OVER!

Hey guys! I recently bought my Dad's Prospec Jammin CRT roller (what a steal), never been run, only problem with it is that the chassis is stained from it just sitting with all that nitro gunk on it. I then ordered the mount from Mike, along with a batttery tray, and 4 days later.. PRESTO! A nice brushless CRT! I already had the 9920, and it will probably stick in there for awhile. I have lipo's that will better fit the tray coming in soon, but for now the batteries from my savage should do fine (4000mah 5s Maxamps). The motor is a 9XL, and I am running a 14 tooth pinion with the stock sized spur.
Pics!! (No body yet, getting it/painting it tommorow morning)

Enjoy!

Very clean!

I would be worried about the placement of the controller though, isn't there a way you can place it somewhere else? not against the motor?

Also; with the warrior/micro controllers, you need to put some foam pads on the back of it, there are delicate SMD components on the back of that print, that are known to get loose if mounted directly onto something hard.

The maxamps 4000 packs in 5S on the 9XL might drop under the 3V per cell under load.

It's one cool conversion, congrats, you can have lots of fun with it!

Yeah, the controller really isn't in the best place, is it? I have some servo tape as padding on the back of it, but I think I am going to make a mount to mount it over the motor in the future. As for the Maxamps packs, I hope they won't! I'm going to be running with a Li-Saver, so I'll just have to be careful. I have some 25c 5000mah lipos coming soon, so they should be able to handle it better, no?

maybe you could put the controller over the center diff. lots of people have done that.

looks great

I think that I am going to make a mount that "bridges" over the motor to mount the ESC, bit lower CoG that way, and I'll have the option to put on mechanical brakes if I want to later.

A little trick from my heli days to remove the nitro gunk. you'd have to come up with a little creative thinking to adapt for a chassis. to remove the gunk stains from the pipes, we would take an old crock pot and dump the pipe in with automotive antifreeze. they came out all nice and clean. you won't be able to put a chassis in a crock pot completely, and you need to do it outside so as not to breath the fumes, but maybe a hotplate on low and a cheapo baking dish from the dollar store or 2nd hand store would do

Hmm.. I may just try that, sounds interesting, haha.

Looks clean... The feigao will also get pretty hot and best kept away from esc...

nice truck

gtxracer 02.19.2008 09:26 PM

Sweet CRT! Have you seen mine yet? Plan to do any racing?

E-Traxxer 02.19.2008 10:19 PM

Thanks for the kind words guys. I now have a decent looking body and the proper sized Li-Pos, only thing I really need is a CC-BEC and a new Spektrum reciever (this one is toast somehow).

gtxracer: I do plan on racing it, but the racing season at the only track within 40 miles of my house is over for now. Grr!
I have also seen your truck, and it looks very nice, I like all of the black on it.
