Losi E-8ight
Losi 8ight
Stats: rc-monster brushless conversion faigao 8xl 15t pinion mamba max 4s (2s in series - zippy 4s 20C coming in) I really need to put thicker diff oil in the center. I also need to clearance the front drive shaft a little more. Right now it runs kinda sluggish on my 2 10c 2s batteries in parallel. As sson as the Zippys come in, it should pep up niely. It is nowhere near as quick as my e-revo, but apples to oranges with the current batteries. I still need to make a proper battery mount for it. http://cloak.ws/rc/8ight/losi8_1.jpg http://cloak.ws/rc/8ight/losi8_2.jpg http://cloak.ws/rc/8ight/losi8_3.jpg http://cloak.ws/rc/8ight/losi8_4.jpg http://cloak.ws/rc/8ight/losi8_5.jpg http://cloak.ws/rc/8ight/losi8_6.jpg |
What kind of tires are those? They look wide for buggy tires.
|
If it's still a bit sluggish with the new pack a 9xl might liven it up a bit I would think. A 9xl would still stay cool in a buggy wouldn't it?

Looks good Cloak, keep us updated on the Zippy packs.

Thanks Dez, good to see you here too (since you're the one that told me about this site.) :D

I put in that thicker center diff fluid and it is doing much better. I also got in some of the Ofna diff lock and the 120,000 stuff as well to play with tuning it.
I also reprogrammed the esc and I noticed that I was getting some odd results. Turns out I had the radio set to reverse so I was getting 50% reverse throttle limit while going forward instead of backwards. It runs quite nicely now. :D That being said, on the 15t pinion and I don't remember the spur, the motor got HOT. 200+F hot after I measured it 2 mins later. Burnt my fingers pretty good too. The esc was about 120ish and the batteries were around 85F, I don't know ambient temp. What should I be looking for here, bigger pinion or smaller? |
Here is a thread that will address your temp/gearing question:http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2200 Feigao motors generally run pretty warm even with correct gearing; I highly recommend an RCmonster motor heatsink and some ventholes in the body around the motor area are a good idea as well.

Thank you. I was sure I read it before and just couldn't find it. I figured it would have been answered but no amount of "hot motor" turned up the results I wanted in the search. :) So either a 10XL motor and/or a bigger pinion are probably in order. I'll start with the pinion and go from there.
Here's some raw footage I took today. And 2 and 3. |
If your motor is getting that hot that quickly, you need a smaller pinion gear. If that doesn't help, there is something wrong with you motor.

I got my Monster Maxx in today, installed it and now I just about pull wheelies on wet pavement on a 4s/8xl setup. :D
I'll take pics tomorrow or this weekend and get some video up. The thing that makes me really grin is how sudden the power comes on. Absolutely smooth low end and it just takes off like a bat out of hell from the instant you hit the throttle. |
Nice conversion, tyres sure look big. Is the green zip tie on esc to match the heat sink? lol
|
Sure, why not. I've got a bunch handy and like the color. The tires are the stock ones for the 8ight.
|
get some heat shrink on the wires lol, looks tacky~! and i have mine geared 16/48 with the stock tire and motor was only 150 after 15 mins, might have been over revving, how is the batt mounted? i hope that zip tie isnt all lol
