Motor upgrade vor VXL Rustler

I have a Rustler VXL changed out the stock ESC for a Mamba Max and I have intentions of using an external BEC and using at least a 4 cell Lipo, I am looking for some motor options

Mike sells the Neu's and Feigao's. Motor choices depends on how fast you are planning to go.

On 4s, a 540 12S would be a decent motor. Or, if you don't mind having to deal with a 5mm rotor shaft, a Neu 1509/1.5Y would probably be an awesome motor for it.

when you say "dealing with a 5mm shaft" do you mean using pinions for a 5mm shaft and not the 3.17 shaft, I do like the idea of a beefier shaft, and what differences would there be between the 2 motors you have listed I have seen them in the online store, and would there be any meshing issues with a 5mm pinion and the stock spur

skellyo 02.04.2008 06:57 PM

The only issue with the 5mm shaft is getting 5mm bore pinions in 32P and then having to swap the spur over to a 32P spur...or buying Mod1 pinions and a Mod1 spur. It's not anything to stop you from buying a Neu, just realize you can't just drop it in without pricey pinions and swapping the spur.

There is always the C40 and C50 hackers as an option, if you want to stay with 48p gears. They are great qaulity motors with the regular 3.2mm shafts. Mike doesn't carry the Lehners anymore, but those would be great options as well.

thanx for the info, I went looking on the online store and I found the pinions but not the spurs, do you have a link for them?

I , do like the Neu motor, would there be any problems with the MM ESC, and would I need anything extra to mount the motor

lincpimp 02.04.2008 07:45 PM

The neu moors will mount up without any problems, as long as they are smoth can models, the finned versions are too big around to fit. Any jato spur gear will work with a 32p 5mm bore pinion. 0.8mod is the same as 32p.

If for some reason you want a feigao 12s I have a used one with about 12 runs on it. It would be a great motor for 4s in a rustler. PM me if you are interested.

so i have been doing some research on the Jato spurs, it seems like they are available in 54-58 tooth models, I presently run a 83 tooth, I am planning on gearing up from where I am at now so I have been lookin at the torque of the Neu motos I have been lookin at, earlier in the post it was suggested on going with a 1509/1.5y would this motor have enough torque, would it be better to step up to a 1515/1y and would a 4 cell Lipo be enough to power it

skellyo 02.07.2008 10:49 PM

The 1515 is more motor than you could ever use in a Rustler. You would either contiuously spin the tires or break the drivetrain with a motor like that. Not to mention, the sheer weight of that beast on the ass end of a Rustler is just asking for the front wheels to never touch the ground.

In a suicide mission type deal, how long will the stock VXL ESC/Motor last with 4S ? is it a case of 1st throttle stab and she's dead? or is it only that it can't take prolonged agony?

neweuser 02.08.2008 04:57 PM

More like prolonged.

marcus 02.08.2008 04:59 PM

Okay, so it's going to handle a couple of Banzai Speed runs........ ?
